JessL and I volunteered at the CN Cycle for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) early this morning. Lots of fun events going on amidst the cycling routes, mostly children's stuff. Most of my pics are of the reptile demos and the petting zoo, natch. Animals are my favorite subject.

This is Lady Chomps-a-lot, an American Alligator.

This is Sherman, a Really Big Tortoise (she told me the species, I forget). He reminded me of Becca's Stagger Lee. I wanted him. <3

omnomnom.

Dangerous territory, Sherman!

Geese, ducks n' chickens.

Alpaca flashing a grin.

Cow.

Baby goat.

Another alpaca.

An angora goat sez: HAI. (Fun fact: You do not get angora from an angora goat. You get cashmere from an angora goat. You get angora from angora rabbits. THE MORE YOU KNOW)

HAY GUYZ

I wanted to take this llama home with me. Spots. <3

Toad.

Puppy!

Some boring BMX biker dudes, this was their coolest stunt.

I leave you with... JessLough's face.

Enjoy!

I'm like 3000 years late to this thread... but Sherman looks like a Sulcata to me; anyone... anyone? lol

(PS also would've taken the spotty llama home - I love llamas.)

Better late than never! He could have been a Sulcata.. they told me, but I can't for the life of me remember.

I loved that llama. <3

I lovee your pictures. Love farm animals. I need a farm lol. That alpaca looks like he's swallowing or regurgitating or about to spit.

That gator seems a bit... err... large to be part of a petting zoo lol! But she looks pretty mellow.

Ahhh pretty close. Angora is from angora rabbits, cashmere is from cashmere goats and MOHAIR is from angora goats. Mohair is that special curly hair you see in your pic. All goats (with the exception of Angora goats) produce an undercoat (like our dogs). When that undercoat is particularly fine, it is considered cashmere (can't remember the exact measurement). You get very little cashmere per goat, which is why it is so expensive. On the other hand, you get lbs of mohair from an Angora goat. :)

Oh right! I got that confused. Cashmere is combed from the goat's belly, IIRC, which is one of the reasons why there's so little.
