Cloth Diapers

All those Chazzers that use cloth diapers, what are your favorites? Why are they your favorites and what makes a good cloth diaper?

I know there are different styles and types, the AIO seems to be the general favorite for being "Daddy Friendly" and easy to use. I am researching so I can start making some to stash away. (no, I am not pregnant yet) :rofl1:
I just like to be super prepared in advance and want to make my own.

What fabrics are best, which type of soaker is the best. Do you ever just change the soaker and leave the waterproofing outer on? How do YOU do it?

I know this is the best place for all sorts of info. Thanks practical moms!

We used both, simply because I'm not crafty enough to make my own and I didn't have the cash to stock up on a ton. Loved them though. I mostly used the AIOs ...really, it was just like putting on a disposable. We mainly used Bum Genius. We do have one in his current size, we always jokingly refer to it as the "good diaper", lol.

These days he doesn't care, but as a little guy, he much preferred the cloth.

We plan to use cloth here during the days and disposables when we go out and at night. I used cloth for my daughter and the amount of money I saved was amazing. I saved because I got them from a Salvation army. They were a Sears brand. I really liked them though they can be a bit bulky. They had velcro all along the front so that as the child grew you could loosen them so they fit for several months. They had a pocket in them too so you could add extra material for more absorbantsy.

We have been preparing every week since getting to 12 weeks. We have the bassinet, swing, playyard, stroller, car seat and are getting the Medela breast pump this week. We have some bottles, newborn diapers, liners and such and we have also been doing one night a week where we make a ton of soup or casserole or such and freeze it so that when the baby arrives we don't have to worry about cooking for a long while. The money we save for not having to get most groceries during that time is paying for a cleaning lady to come in after the baby is born once a week for a few months so the house is kept up even with me healing and getting sleepless nights with a newborn. Can't wait for that.

LOVE cloth. Now mine have been out of them for a couple years so I am sure have added a bunch of great new ones. I like AIOs but actually liked pockets better because they dried quicker and I could change the insert as needed. I also really like flats or fitted with wool covers. Knitting longies and shorties was so much fun!

I had a pretty nice stash but the majority were Bum Genius...back when it was still version 1.0 lol. Had some 2.0s I think too...but they held up for both kids washing every other day so I was happy. Cotton Babies (makers of BG) is local to me so I felt good supporting them too.

Prefolds are really wonderful. I used them with knitted wool soakers. They worked really well and kept him from getting rashes. Those little clips (I think they were even invented in SA) are so awesome for prefold diapers. I never had to use a pin. I did use pins on the soakers which worked better than velcro (which sticks to the wool) and buttons (which limit the sizing).

I'll have to go through my stash and check out the brands of the fitted ones.

Does anyone have a link to a website that gives good advice/explains things? I would like to make my own but I think it would be easier with more information on fabric types etc. Thanks in advance.
