THIRD ANNUAL GIANT CHAZZER MIDWEST MEET UP!!!!!

When: Saturday, May 30th, 2015

Where: East Branch Dog Park, Glendale Heights, IL area.
The park entrance is off of swift road. Use the address of 2N675 Swift Rd, Lombard, IL 60148 in order to get close - this is not the actual address! Refer to map (linked above) for the exact location.

Please purchase a park pass ($20) here: www.DupageForest.com

You can get Daily Dog Permits by mail or by fax.
Phone: (630) 933-7248 Fax: (630) 933-7217
If you have access to a fax machine, that's what I'd recommend. It takes 2 seconds and they fax it back to you pretty immediately.

They don't check for passes at the park but if they randomly do, there is a $75 fine. So play at your own risk.

Hotel/s:
Red Roof Inn, Downers Grove -- to the south 25 minutes. Cheap, but hard to get to.

La Quinta Inn, Bolingbrook, IL -- nice, dog friendly, easy to get to the park. 25ish minutes to the south.

If anybody would like to camp, let me know!!! I'd be also willing to share a hotel room with people Friday night.

Some pictures of the park to inspire your attendance. It is an off leash forest preserve where there are physical barriers instead of actual fences. It's really not suitable for leashed dogs or long lines. We are walking constantly with intermittent stops at beaches around the pond, so the dogs stick pretty close (obviously you all know your dogs best but don't let the lack of fences be a deal-breaking issue).

Darn it, that's when I'm in PA for Ferretpalooza. :( Wish I could be in both places at once!

Oh yay! You did decide to do the last weekend!!! So much excite!

Would you be interested in splitting a campsite? Or are you looking for a hotel only?

Yeah, I did decide that we should just go for it that weekend and see what happens.

I do have one restriction in MY schedule--- I have to be home around 5 PM on Saturday for my colleague's wedding. :(

So what I'd like to do is get an idea of from others traveling on timing -- I am planning on getting to town on Friday, spend Friday afternoon at the park, spend Friday night (at the campground? camp at Linds' house? hotel?) and go to the park Saturday morning. If you all aren't able to get to the park Friday afternoon/Saturday morning, that would ok, you all can get together later in the afternoon on Saturday...

Let the brainstorming begin :p

Karen, PLEEEEASE! I really enjoyed meeting you and the Squashies!

Stardogs :( Bummer!!!!

Moth - we can always count on you and the curly tails!! :D

*crossing fingers* that xpaenx & Julee come! Eee!

:-/ The scheduling thing really stinks. I will pretty much definitely be coming. I can't speak for Julee though. I'm a 14 hour drive, so I will try to time it to be there earlier Friday... but.... it depends on a few factors. I will be there by Friday night for sure though.

I'm poor, so I'm down for camping and splitting a site or camping in a backyard... whichever... the cheaper the better. ;)

Good to know it's an annual thing. Chicago isn't too far away so I might be able to swing it next year. : )

Arrrrrgh, you guys are killing me!!! I was thinking about heading home for a bit in May, but I won't have the dogs nor will I have a car.

Basically, there need to be more south-east Chazzers.

Oh god I live like 10 hours away but I want to go so bad. And we love roadtrips more than most things.

Boyfriend and I both have weekends off. Hmmmm.

Would it even be inappropriate for a 50 ft long line? Finn has the behavior of a hound, and when I take him to dog parks, he tends to just wander off and sniff and do his own thing, so it would make me nervous to take him to a dog park this huge without any sort of lead. He might stay with a large group of dogs, but if he catches a scent he is gone.

A 50' would be horrid on those trails with all the other dogs and people. The paths are bordered by tall grass and are only wide enough for one person at a time generally. If you wanted a dragline, I'd go with 10' or shorter.

Dogs really do seem to stick close. We took foster Seal and let her loose and she didn't stray too far. And I agree that a shorter line would be better, a long line would just get stuck and tangled. We're continually walking around, the dogs have to keep with us and keep moving, plus we're on a little trail and there's nowhere else to really go.

10 hours is nothin'! Pleeeeeease come!!!

Ah yeah, I wasn't thinking about it like that. When I think of "dog park" I think of neatly mowed, wide open fields, where a long line wouldn't get caught up on anything. I wasn't thinking that there were actual paths and everyone would be close together and in the "tripping" zone

I'll bring his leash just in case, but if there's no where to go and he's constantly walking I think he'll be okay. We're working on recall, it's just that he tends to zone out when he's sniffing.

aaaannd boyfriend said, since we know about this so far in advance, he can easily take the Friday before off, and we could definitely drive up and spend a 3 day weekend there :D

This is tempting.

I love that park so much, the boys had a blast last time, and I don't have any activities planned for that weekend yet. :D
