Last time I checked, this site is FREE! However, it takes a lot of time & money to keep it running smoothly. This seems to have escaped most people. There seems to be a sense entitlement here. Like you are owed something.

And now you have a new owner who's invested in a new server, hosting and other things to keep the site FREE that actually cost money! I came in here to keep everyone in the know and all I get is abuse. Like I have done something to deserve this?

What abuse? Yes we know its free. And one of the reasons people want to put ads on this site is because its a popular forum. Why is it a popular forum? The members. So while yes we should all be appreciative of people who want to run it. The people who run it should be appreciative of those who make the place what it is.

I found your approach a bit insulting. So I said so. There was no abuse. I was stating how I felt. Being able to state how you feel is the single most important thing IMO to this community. No one has to agree with you, no one has to take it personally.. but you can say it if you feel that way.

This is 'my' and every other member's community. Of course we feel a little sense of entitlement. We have helped build this place to what it is now and will help to build it to what ever it will be tomorrow. If we didnt' care so deeply this would be just another dog forum.

Just saw this and, while change for the sake of change is not always great, I saw it belongs to MT now and if he wants to change, so be it. I appreciate that it's free. The ads don't annoy me as much as they used to because I have installed software that minimizes their impact on my end. I understand the need for the ads and would not expect a free site to remove them. Something has to pay the bills/offset the cost.

Welcome aboard, MT. I like the nickname (or did your parents name you "MeatyTreats"? :rofl1:

it's still the same forum, so I don't see the big deal. Meaty Treats is doing everyone a HUGE favor by keeping the forum up and running, and it's a shame how some people have responded. I think it's a little more proper to say THANK YOU to him.

so thanks, MT. and the forum goes on, as it's just another day.

I always understood why CHazhound took a distant seat. I think that is almost necessary to keeping the smooth running of the side of the forum we all take for granted. WHat if he had gotten involved, and ended up in one of the heated sides of things, i am not sure that works for keeping the whole works running.
I don't understand it...My favorite forum is probably very close to this one in terms of activity ~ members, posts, etc. They have 2 admins, one Super mod and one mod. The admins are the site owners, and they are very active participants in the forum. It's nice to know that if there are tech issues, the owners are readily available. It's nice to have them as friends and to know them as active members.

What you guys don't realize is that Chaz and Lynn truly didn't understand how we all feel about them. They are quiet, modest people and it never occurred to either of them that the members here have such a passionate attachment and loyalty to THEM, not just the site.
To be honest, I don't feel a loyalty to Chaz and Lynn...I never heard of Lynn before now, and I've only seen a handful of posts by Chaz; I don't know him. I have an attachment to the community.

Exactly, I have an attachment to the community of members that have BOTHERED to get to know me and Chloe... to the ones that ask me how I am, and about my day and about Chloe... not to anyone else

No I DONT have a new owner.. the SITE has a new owner, and you came here back in 2004 and have 49 posts... way to get to know people

I as well did not see any "abuse". I see people wanting to protect a forum they've grown to love and enjoy. True we are not entitled to anything, though there may be some questions when members start pulling their "Free Enrollment" and going somewhere else.

Like a bridge we need all three: The supports (owner) to anchor the bridge, the rope (mods) to keep the bridge together, and the planks (members) to make the bridge whole and complete.

Take away the planks? And all you've got is a stupid little rope bridge blowing in the wind...

So, how are you doing? How's Chloe? Haven't seen you peeking in the window in a couple of days.

A community he made possible. With all respect. He started it when it was wee small and did the umpteen pounds of work it took to keep it going as it grew out of bounds and off the record. Now he has handed it over to someone that might be able to help it stay afloat. I for one appriciate that, and wish to express my gratitude to both CHazhound AND Lynn for i am sure it took up a great deal of their lives, more then they had anticipated.

I don't need a landlord to know me or my family or care what we are like. I do however need him to make sure my house is safe and sound and secure. MT isn't a landlord and it isnt' the same as my paying him to post here. I can do that for FREE. AS long as i mind my p's and q's. :)

wonderful new members join every day.

still don't see this 'big threat', but whatever......

seems to be a lot of cranky people posting a lot of nothing. so by all means...continue. LOL

I think I'll cruise around the forum......CAUSE NOTHING HAS CHANGED. it's all in your heads.

Hi Heath (can I call you that?), I'm Stefanie, although Nolu works just fine. Welcome aboard. :)

We don't know you, and we don't know what kind of change to expect from you, and any changes you make will affect us as whole. As members, we don't have any say in that decision except what input you accept from us and take into consideration. As long-standing members of the community, that scares us. There are certain things about chaz we have grown to love: the freedom - the freedom to be individuals, and to say what we feel without (much) censorship, the friendships we have attained through chaz - we are FAMILY and are closer with our friends here than our own families. If negative changes occur, ones that start driving people away, it will break up our family. (Don't read me wrong - I'm not accusing you of a single-handed attempt to destroy the forum or anything like that. All I am trying to do is open up and tell you our fears a bit more thoroughly, without accusations.) When Chazhound was the administrator of the forum, we knew what to expect, and now we don't. It would help if you could provide specifics about what sorts of changes you intend to implement, and perhaps take our comments/concerns about the ideas into consideration.

We want you to be involved. Be a part of the community. Jump in. Don't take some of the reactions here too personally - some of us can be prickly about change, me included (I believe Renee has made unsavory comparisons of me before about my attitude on change ;) ). We aren't saying this to tell you that we aren't giving you a chance - but this is a big change, with potential to be bigger. You have to show us who you are - we aren't going to throw ourselves at your feet; but we aren't going to immediately turn you away, either. We need to give you a chance to show us you can be a part of the family, too.

What you guys don't realize is that Chaz and Lynn truly didn't understand how we all feel about them. They are quiet, modest people and it never occurred to either of them that the members here have such a passionate attachment and loyalty to THEM, not just the site.
Oh dear... I had no idea they didn't know that. (((((HUGS)))) to you both - even though you two are mostly in the background of chaz, we'll miss you both.

This post was composed by skittledoo (Amber) and Stef, over the phone - I read the thread to her, and she was moved by Sizzle and Dekka's posts. (And the bit about friendships earlier on in the post? I don't know how much time you've spent reading the boards, but ours is a great example - Amber and I met on chaz, live near eachother, and arranged a meetup last February. Since we've spent loads of time with each other and our dogs, shopping, hiking, photoshoots, doggie playdates, etc. We have a close, lasting friendship, and chaz brought us together. These are the kinds of friendships people make here, and this is just one of MANY examples.)

Welcome MeatyTreats. Wishing you much success in this business venture while enjoying the daily lives and personalities of the members.

This thread is a good example of why I like this forum so much. The members here are allowed to be different, ask questions or challenge statements (BS is not tolerated - no matter who it is), state their feelings openly, have very heated debates without holding a grudge and mods who respect members and most importantly are fair.

I like the responses you've given because you have said exactly how you honestly feel about what members have stated but didn't resort to the standard answer given on other forums: "Well, if you don't like it here, you can always leave".

Everything changes - hoping it will continue to get better and better.

well I actually heard about this before I came here and read it as I am on vacation and have extremely limited internet access lol so REnee gave me a heads up when she came to see us.

I think I am just naturally trusting... yeah it's a downfall of mine but I usually TRY to have faith that things will be OK rather than think the worst of people I would rather give the benefit of the doubt and let them prove otherwise.

But I see it this way... we may not like all the changes and we may not like the way the new owner introduced himself... BUT... it's better than chaz being shut down all together which is what would have happened had someone new not come along to take over the site and all the maintenance.

So I'd rather there be change than no Chaz at all.

Welcome MT :)

I finally got the chance to get online today... woo hoo!

Anyways... I wanted to also add off of what Nolu wrote, that I've met numerous chazzers in person and have developed long lasting friendships with them. Chaz is my family. This community is made up of people I feel very close to. Welcome to the board MT. I really hope that you'll find your place here in this community. Expect that some of us are going to be a little guarded at first because we don't know what to expect from the site's new ownership. Some may be more guarded than others, myself included. But, I need to give you the benefit of the doubt and take the time to get to know you before I ultimately jump to conclusions. I look forward to hearing more about you and your dog and I look forward to seeing you around the forums and getting to know what kind of person you are through the threads you post in.

Welcome! I just saw this thread or would have posted sooner. I'm glad you've come on to introduce yourself just like a new member of Chaz would and we would all welcome the new member.

I know what it's like to be new to something as I moved to Tennesse about a year ago from CT/NY. Being a New Yorker at heart, it takes some time to get used to the south and a new way of life. It also takes time for people down here accept that just because I may have a NY accent, I'm a person just like them.

Some people don't like change, but this is a reality in life. We can either accept it & or go sit in a corner and pout. I choose to accept changes in life and Chaz for the good it can bring. Let's all be positive!

MT, you may be new to Chaz but you are just like all of us. I truly mean "welcome" from the heart and look forward to seeing pics of Amber Rose.

Grammy welcomes you too and wishes you well ! Life brings changes and it's best to go with the flow rather than try to swim up stream . Chaz was like the Wizard of OZ . Always here , but behind the curtain .

Well, welcome MeatyTreats.

I have to say I'm a bit nervous after this thread, simply because of your reaction posts... I don't generally warm up to someone that's calling my friends hostile and abusive. I wasn't too worried until I kept reading, and with every post you seem to be getting your back up more and more... which worries me about what kind of influence that will have on the forum as a whole.

Try to see things from our POV. We have a very close knit community, and far too many forums have gone down the pooper after a change of ownership. I for one have never seen it work out well. Combine that with a very sudden announcement with talk of change, and people are bound to be nervous. I hope that won't be the case here, and hope that in spite of getting off on the wrong foot things will work out for the better.
