My Dad and I finally found a middle ground. He talked to a nurse about a few things and came to me today and apologized for blowing up at me and said "Your decisions are different, but it sounds like you're making good ones and you've done your research. The baby will be yours and I will love him no matter what. We all have his best interest in mind." Yes! A breakthrough!

So, long story short, we weren't going to do a 3d ultrasound (I think they're creepy lol) but we ended up at a specialist to do specific brain measurements and they gave us a picture. So who am I to say no?? Also, all is well on the brain measurements - one of the ventricles was measuring a bit big and they started throwing around scary words but it managed to sort itself out over the last two months.

She (we had to find out the sex too, we weren't going to originally) has my nose!!! It was really shocking to look at the screen and realize that MY nose is on our baby lol.

I'm pretty sure she was flipping us off. That's definitely my kid. :rofl1:

ETA: I still think the 3d ultrasounds are creepy. This has not changed my mind. :p

You're having a girl too?!? Lol that's my first thought, because now between Chaz, real life, and tumblr, I know 9 or 10 ladies having girls and not one expecting a boy! My mom says that means there will be a peaceful time (no wars) in 18 years, lol.

I'm really glad to hear everything showed up healthy, though!

Thanks guys! The last couple months were a little scary but I'm kind of proud of myself for keeping my anxiety and stress levels under control. And I'm super glad everything got sorted out and she's fine now.

I know quite a few people due around the same time as me that are having girls! It's a little strange.

I think your mom doesn't hang out with the same kind of girls that I knew at 18......LOL.

Do you know anyone who's having a boy, by any chance? I have one friend IRL who hasn't found out (or if she has, hasn't announced it), but every other pregnant woman I know/know of it having a girl!

One of my cousins is having a boy she is due in June. Another cousin is due in March and having a girl. We confirmed girl this week too at our ultrasound so that's twice they've said it, I feel pretty confident it will be a girl now lol

I don't know anyone IRL that's having a boy near me - although my mom may just be telling me about the people having girls lol. It's a girl epidemic. :p

Are you having a baby shower? Also, I meant to have them double check the sex for us yesterday but I completely forgot. >.< We go back for one more check at 32 weeks though so I can ask them then.

It's always nice to get that reassurance if you really want to know! Most of my family and close friends are on the other side of the country, so the only shower I am having is with my coworkers (which is still nice!). It will be after baby is here though because they all want to see her!

Did they tell you the sex through the 3D ultrasound? Cause if they did, those are kind of hard to screw up sex on LOL

Apparently, we're getting a birthing center run by midwives this summer.

Yeah, if we're going to know I'd like to know for sure. Minimal surprise endings! Lol. I like the idea of the shower afterwards - it makes more sense to me! And you don't have to play any games. :p

Lol! Well when they looked the first time it was with the regular imaging, not the 3D. But I don't have any idea how ultrasound imaging works so maybe they just didn't have the neon orange skin option turned on?? They do have a much more detailed ultrasound machine at that office though, so I kinda doubt that they're wrong.

Who here got a positive result with the blood screen test for Down syndrome?

I just got a call from my doctor and he said that it came back that I am at a higher risk for Down syndrome than they would expect for someone my age. 1 in 138 chance. I know about 90% of these tests are false positives, but this is terrifying. I'm shaking.

First, take a very deep breath. 1 in 138 is a .7% chance - that's INCREDIBLY small. It's still scary and you're allowed to be scared but if you start freaking out just remember that the odds are 137/138 that your baby does not have down syndrome.

Which blood screen test did they use? We got the Maternit21 test - our doctor said it was easier and more reliable than a lot of the others. And it is as accurate as an amniocentesis, with the added benefit of not having a big needle stuck in you.

TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN , A WHOLE SHAKER OF SALT.

I had a positive that one of both of my girls would have downs.

Neither do.

BREATH and calm down. It is whatever it is and you just have to figure out
a game plan.

I didn't do the screening tests because I didn't want to have to worry about false positives and odds and percentages. If the test can't give me a yes or no, it's not really worth it to me, since we would not choose to abort either way.

So, yeah take it with a grain of salt and don't stress over it! Stress is bad.
