Thank you guys! Love your pic allison!

Falon wouldn't nap yesterday and was refusing her morning nap until I doped her with ibuprofen. Now she's crashed out and I feel bad for not trying this before since something was clearly hurting. :( Poor baby.

My sisters baby shower is this weekend-- what is your favorite baby item that no mother should be without?!
Honestly, the only thing I can think of that I would really NEED for a futurebaby is the Boppy. It was super helpful for nursing, and we still use it at almost 7 months to help her stay sitting up. She also napped on it (which you're not supposed to do I guess) for quite awhile.

One thing "needed" for me was a good carrier/sling. I used mine daily, pretty much all day often. Personally my favorite is a mei tai as for me it was the most comfortable and you can do back carries really early with them and thats super convenient for getting other things done.

I pretty much never used my boppy...never used the swing, and the bouncy chair was used a couple times.

This. Mine was a different brand but same idea. It was the only place Hannah liked to be if she wasn't in my arms. She never liked thr swing or the bouncy seat. I never heard that they shouldn't nap in them but we broke thT rule A LOT. She napped in hers beside me on the couch ALL the time.

And gripe water. :)

It SUCKS that a 6 year old can't just be a kid without being hyper aware of her breathing difficulties :( it's not fair. Hannah has developed ANOTHER cough resulting in a lot of asthma complications. She goes to the specialist on Tuesday but that seems so far away. With this cough she is needing her nebulizer every 4 hours and also using her rescue inhaler.

I'm thinking I may need to get her into the Ped on Friday to address this cough. it's a very deep, throaty cough and A LOT of wheezing :(

I wish she wasn't affected by asthma at all. I know what she's going through as I suffered like she is as a kid (mostly grew out of it thankfully other than the occasional flare up) but it's just not fair. she should be able to go out and run around and play without having an attack.

I didn't use the boppy either, and heard it's best for moms with small breasts...my lactation consultant said get rid of it, too. Now that she's bigger she likes to lay on her tummy on it but if I could go back I wouldn't waste the money.

Definitely a good baby carrying wrap. I had a knockoff version of the maya sling which was a lifesaver during the newborn period. I also love my moby style wrap (I made it) and the infantino soft structured carrier I have.

An activity mat seems like it'd be for older babies but Lillian loved lying on it from just a week old.

The majority of my boppy use was not really for nursing although I did use it for that as well because I just couldn't hold Hannah up that long without my arms wanting to fall off lol. So I would use that to hold her up and then that's just where she liked to be when we were sitting on the couch or if we were out and she wanted to snuggle up to me and nap I would just put the boppy around my waist and lay her on that with my arms around her so I didn't have to hold her up.

I used it so much... I bought a second one just in case that one was in the wash or something happened to it LOL

Poor Hannah...that is just awful for her to deal with.

Probably a long shot but I know for some asthma is caused by (or at least worsened by) gluten. My friends son was having a ton of breathing difficulties. They took him off gluten and it cleared up. You may have already looked into this, I dont know.

Hmmm that's interesting. I had not looked into that before. good to know.

her asthma went from very rare symptoms (basically a little cough if she was running around in cold weather) to needing her inhaler multiple times a day all of a sudden. It was like once she had her first real attack... it got really bad after that point. it is exercise induced as far as I can tell... unless she's sick (like now, and two weeks ago). Like she won't just be sitting around and have an attack (again... unless she is having bronchial trouble to beging with like a cold)... it always happens when she gets playing, over excited, running around, etc. At least it's at the point now where she's so used to it that she doesn't panic or freak out anymore, she's just like "time for my inhaler". but that's kind of sad in a way.

Cooper has asthma that is brought on by colds. Every single time he gets a cold it settles in his chest. Or if he has allergies nonstop, it always ends up as a cough settled in his chest. In daycare, you can imagine how often he has a cold....pretty much all winter.

Last winter our ped started him on a daily nebulizer steroid. It is low dose of steroid (I was concerned and the Dr said 5 of those breathing treatments is equivalent to one oral dose of steroids), but last winter he did SO MUCH BETTER! I think he may have had 1-2 coughs that required breathing treatments out of the ton of colds/coughs he had all winter, and one of them ended up being walking pneumonia. It has been life changing. I just started him back on it for this winter a few weeks ago when croup was going around his school like wildfire and he caught it, but his case was very mild compared to everyone else. I can get you the name if you want to maybe inquire about it.

She will still have to always have her rescue inhaler available I am sure, but it might help prevent her from getting so many of those coughs that cause so many issues.

That would be great. I would love to inquire about different methods when we go.

I always make sure to have her rescue inhaler but like our doc said... We shouldn't have to treat the attacks as often as we are and rather find something to try to prevent the attacks from happening in the first place. The rescue inhaler has become the treatment (well that and the nebulizer) instead of the "in case of emergency" as it is intended.

Blah, asthma just stinks all around. I figured she had a good chance of ending up with it since myself and all my siblings have it and Brians sister has it.

They are also going to retest her allergies while we are there. Interested to see what comes up this time. The first time it came up with eggs and cats.

We use Budesonide which I think is also referred to as Pulmicort. He takes a breathing treatment of it each night before bed, then follows it with some water to clean out his mouth. If we have to do a regular breathing treatment too, we just put both meds in the thing and do it all at once. We use Xopenex for regular breathing treatments for wheezing instead of Albuterol and has none of the side effects that Albuterol does.

Good luck with your appointment!

How could I forget about carriers?? Definitely a need - I just used my woven yesterday because the baby would only sleep ON me. I really loved my ring sling, my Pikkolo, and my mei tei when Falon was small.

Mei Tais are great for older babies and toddlers as well....these pics are of front carries just because I was taking pics for someone but usually at that age they were always back carries....

How do I tell someone I don't want to let them babysit?

It's his cousin...she's a teacher, frequently babysits, and has a lot if experience. I'd probably let her babysit for a short time - an hour or two - but I seriously don't trust her BF (who she lives with).

His dad was supposed to babysit, but had to back out, and instead of just asking us, he called his niece and asked if she could do it. I kind of made an excuse as to why we'd just have my mom watch her, but now she keeps texting me offering if we want to have a date night or do I want to go out with friends...

I feel like continually making excuses will get old fast, and she's not the kind of person to take a hint. Can I politely tell her I don't want to leave my kid with her?

I would just tell her "Thanks for offering, if we ever need anybody we will keep you in mind and let you know!" Repeatedly if you have to. In those exact words over and over again.
There is no polite way to tell somebody you don't trust them (or her BF, because it implies poor judgment on her behalf of her SO) with your child.
