I was able to sit next to this lady for quite some time. I held very still and she let me get quite close to take her pregnant photo. She was soaking up the last of the warmth from the concrete. YOu almost never ever see them like this.
I have been able to get a couple nice shots last year and will hope I do this year. I really enjoy seeing them and Victor is over the moon fascinated by them because he can never catch one. He is a lizard pointer.

---They are soooo pretty as babies, bright blue tails, black and white striped bodies. I love the coppery colors too. Never saw one right in the middle of change tho. I have tried to give them a good set up in my garden. Lots of rocks that are hollow underneath with many escapes. Shallow cool rocks with indentations that hold a little water. I saw one old one, i was able to get very close, and then felt bad when I realized the only reason I could was because he had lost an eye on the side I was on. I tapped a finger on a log and he shot right back under the porch. I don't know if they have figured out I am not a threat and that is why they don't run for it like they use to or not. The do when the dogs come out. The birds certainly know me. I Feel like snow white when I go out to fill the feeder. They get within inches of me now. YAY.

You should have seen baby Patrick , my number one bird fan, the little boy that helps me fill the feeder every morning. THe birds know him too and he was able to run about and laugh and clap with glee as they flitted above him. He watches the trees with anticipation, points to where he hears their songs which are prolific. I am so glad he gets to experience this. I am painting him a letter P for his birthday and putting all his favorite birds on it. I will miss my morning helper when they move.

My SO bought this for me when my son was little. He too liked birds. So maybe this is why babies and birds get along so well here. Gads I love my garden, tiny as it is, it has all my old friends in it.
