There are a few people here on Chaz that already know this, but I lost Clyde on December 26 after a short 7 week battle with cancer. He had some nebulous symptoms up until November 1, when I took him to the vet for a swollen left eye. They did a CT of his head and chest that day, and found a massively destructive tumor. We put him on pain medications and started radiation therapy the following week; we got through four RTs, but on week 5, we learned that there had been significant destruction over the week and that is was futile to continue. That was on December 7. He had a great couple of weeks, and his decline was very quick. My heart was shattered into a billion pieces; he was my heart dog, and my soul will never be the same. I still cry a lot, but I can go longer than 24 hours without bawling now.

To honor Clyde's memory, my DP & I decided to foster for a local Rottweiler rescue. On January 15, they brought our foster, Tilly, over, as well as the new kid, Dulcie (who was just there for photos and to cat test). To make a long story short, Dulcie wound up staying, as Tilly couldn't break her focus on my cats - whereas Dulcie was eating treats off of the floor with them. For a dog whose history included being tied to a tree and used as a brood bitch, she fit in to our multipet household seamlessly.

It didn't take us long (obviously) to decide that Dulcie was here to stay; she's just way too special and was worth foster failing right out of the gates for. We took her to an adoption event for the rescue last weekend, and she did remarkably well... She'd make an excellent therapy dog, and seems motivated enough to do some Rally & maybe OB stuff with as well. She is definitely nothing like my Flower, either; she's very small - short, squatty, distinctly female, and weighs about 40# less than him, and so dainty... He was this big oaf whose presence you had to be aware of, and he was a momma's boy of the highest order... She's different, but in a good way.

So that's that.

And here's her:

And here's us, with Zellie:

She's beautiful, I love the long tail and her name!

And I'm so sorry to hear about Clyde, it's so hard to lose someone who meant so much to you, whether it was a dog, horse or a person. It's great that you chose to try fostering for a Rottie rescue to honor him, I know that when my horse died, my instructor told me that she would want me to find another horse to love. Although I'm not going to be getting another horse for a couple more years, it's true (but I continue to miss my Indie everyday) and I hope you and Dulcie have lots of fun in whatever venue you wish to pursue. I'm sure she knows her life is going to be amazing from now on. :)

Dulcie is beautiful! I would have failed at fostering her, too.

So sorry to hear about Clyde. My parents also lost their Rottie to cancer, just as quickly, but they refuse to get another dog - losing Mattie hurt too much.

I am almost certain that Clyde sent her to me... somehow, someway, he did it. There are too many factor to suggest otherwise.

And I don't even remotely believe in that type of hokey nonsense.

I'm not sure if her name will remain Dulcie... I am leaning towards Kaia, but nothing really suits her. I'm open to suggestions!

I'm so sorry to hear able Clyde :(

A rottie with a tail, be still my heart.
That tail is what got us hooked; the rest of her is just an added bonus. :D
