How big do they get?
Are they good with kids?
Do you know of any good breeders I could chat with?
Do they tend to run away from home?
Are they easy to train or are they hard headed?
What are they like to own?

Thanks :)

How big do they get?
around 120-130lb or higher, With males and females showing clear difference in build and females being smaller
Are they good with kids?
They are amazing with kids, but dont leave a child alone or if playing with other kids, it is a huge dog
Do you know of any good breeders I could chat with?
check out www.molosserdogs.com and ask around there
Do they tend to run away from home?
They usually stick to a certain area, roaming within a distance, but they dont "run away"
Are they easy to train or are they hard headed?
They are both :) Very smart and quick learnings, but they are thinking dogs, and need to see a point in training
What are they like to own?
Its rather fun :) They keep you on the edge

I've worked with both breeds extensively and both breeds are my favourites as far as dogs go. I know quiet a bit about them, not to mention they are very similar.

Do you know of any good breeders I could chat with?
As pres of the US Club I can only recommended breeders who meet a code of ethics. But if you wish to chat with breeders that do not and have fighting lines pls do visit the site orion linked it has even figthing pics and breeding who promote and select for that. We do not.
We have breeders in Mi who are judges from Russia but they are not online if you are close pls visit them and ask me for some contact info.

Do they tend to run away from home?
They are territorial and will extend territory without fencing.
My dogs dont run off but break into the house in the summer for some A/C

Are they easy to train or are they hard headed?
They do not have much prey drive they are easy to train for routine work and basic obedience . Even thou I have some with military trainers.

What are they like to own? Cat like family like guard like creatures of habit
Please visit http://www.ovcharkarescue.org for some LGD rescues of many breeds. We often get casts off from other non accepted CAS breeders in this rescue.

Difference between me and others is I own (12)& breed(40) CAS .
And have handled, seen , worked, CGC, trained, rescues many other breeds but it dont make me expert enough to answer the above ? about them.

And I own the first CGC of the breed in the USA as well as the first TDi and the first UKC and Grand Champion. I dont need HELP getting a dog to pass a CGC it is so basic for REAL experts on the breeds.

Dam Princess ALi of Taskent Sire Cozemo as seen in the new DOG BIBLE
Mother to FF Terror BIS under Zhitkova and FF BOBO going for UKC Total dog

She is a great working bitch excellent with the sheep and when she is retired from breeding she will be spayed and live with her brother out pack with our growing herd... She is just under 27 inches medium bone so she is not going to be a big show winner yet the pups that come out of her are HUGE....

Here is she again pregnant last year.

Yes...great looking dogs and lots of good info and links.

couple of questions..

Why do they crop the ears so short? Why do they crop the ears at all? Function or Looks?

What is their health like for big dogs? (lifespan, health issues...etc)

Maybe this is off track but what are the main difference between CO and CAO? I read the slight temperment difference but what else?

Do they herd or guard or both?

Thanks for the info...good reading :D

Why do they crop the ears so short?
Technically they are not cropped they are amputated.
Crop is indicative of taking a natural ear and doing Plastic surgery on it to give a different appearance.
This is a working amputation that has been done on this landrace of breeds for over 4000 years..The reason the less apendages for the wolr or predator to grab the less damage to the dog and it can save thier life.
And since it is done at 3 days like the DOCK of the tail it cant be chosen for just working dogs vs pets at that age.
The place they call home does NOT have vets in the working areas of the breed thus it is the survival of the fitest.

What is their health like for big dogs? (lifespan, health issues...etc)
My oldest female is 10 next week and my oldest male is 10 in March .
BOTH are working , he is still out showing and winning at what many consider ancient for molossers.
When the breed is inbred we will see less on longevity , increase of size and a rise in joint issues.
We are lucky so far within my lines but others are not as lucky.
I find if you select for work first show 2nd you get a long lived dog.I

Maybe this is off track but what are the main difference between CO and CAO? I read the slight temperment difference but what else?

Truth is regards to temp I dont want to get into it with the severe politics that surround both breeds on the net due to the unusual rare fact that they were taken from their native lands and bred under Comminist rule for a long period of time.

So here is my opinion based on having 4 CO at my home and many others i handled in the show ring.

Appearance the CO has a tail should be bigger than the CAS and has a longer coat-
Temp the CO is a better security dog with a quicker trigger than the CAS.
Please read the standards for correct temperament for both breeds and look at key words difference for correct and for faults.

Do they herd or guard or both?
They guard the sheep and other livestock native to their area are nomadic they move with the trible vs the dog moving the sheep.

Thanks for the info...good reading YOUR WELCOME :)
