This was posted on my Anatolian site and thought it was important to post here:

I am in California and I went to Walmart to buy a new hose to fill my trough for the Anatolians, goats and horses to drink out of yesterday. I was surprised to see that every single hose Walmart carried had a warning on the label from the State of California. It advised against using the hoses for drinking due to toxic levels of chemicals know by the state to cause cancer and birth defects. Most stated that they contained lead and advised to wash hands carefully after handling the hoses. The brands I saw and liked were Colorite Water Works hoses, which are very popular and nice hoses. Unfortunately, they are poison!! After shopping at an Orchard Supply and an Ace Hardware store, I learned that the only safe drinking hoses are sold at RV and boating supply stores. They are always pure white in color and have a label stating that they are safe for drinking. A few hoses state that they are made with medical grade vinal, but I learned that they are still not considered or stated to be safe for drinking.

Just thought I'd pass this info on. It seems we can no longer take anything for granted as being non-toxic in our world. What a shame. But there is a safe alternative to bring our wonderful animals safer water!!

Thats a scarey thought. I use the hose to fill the dogs water dish! Plus when I turn the water on Gracie gets all excited and comes running, she likes to drink from it. Maybe instead of me asking you to send me the link you could post it in here for everyone to see. I'd like to show my husband.

Gee wiz!!!! I never heard that. That's scary. So, the white hoses from boating or RV places are the only safe ones? I guess I'll be filling their outside bowls from the house from now on until I get one of those other hoses. And sometimes I drink from those regular hoses too. Who doesn't?

Thanks a lot for the information!

I've seen that warning on eletrical wires alot around here. We just ignore those warnings on the hoses because the water don't taste any different. But thanks for shareing.
