We have a cat and a dog. The cat is coming up to 11 and the dog is just gone 2. We have had the dog since she was 8 weeks and tried introducing the cat and the dog then but the dog tried to jump on and lick the cat and the cat hissed and we were worried he would hurt her. Now we have to keep the two seperate and this is getting very difficult because the dog loves being inside but the cat hates having to be put upstairs. At the moment the dog has to live in the kitchen and the cat in the rest of the house. Lately the dog has been acting up a lot more and the vet said it was because she felt left out. We really need to get them to live together. Any tips??? PLEASE!!

PS. Sorry for the long post

The first foster kitten I brought home, one of the dogs, Fudge, almost killed it. There still seems to be a problem with very young kittens, but 3+ month old kittens, he loves to chase, but so far no more incidents.

As long as the dog is not truly trying to EAT the cat, it could just be a very very heightened interest and attraction to something so new and different. I simply started allowing Fudge in the room with a cat, and any time he would ignore the cat's warning or was getting to interested, he was corrected and taken away from the cat, and we'd start over. His reward was being able to interact with the cat, punishment was being taken away. I would never allow him alone with a cat still, but he and cats can be in the same room now with supervision with virtually no worry at all.

Also, do you have high places the cat can retreat to?

Thanx

I'm going to try that and see if it works! I have a few high places so the cat should be ok. Thanks again
