I had to get it off my mind and wrote an email to Canidae. I told them about stopping use of their food and how they may be saving money making inferior food but are losing money due loss of sales. It probably won't make a difference, but I just wanted to tell them exactly how I felt.

I love Natura products, but I feel they're beginning to become overpriced. Wellness is definitely overpriced, and IMO the only thing it's good for is dropping weight on a fat dog!
Seriously? Wellness? Dropping weight? Most of the pets on wellness kibble I have seen gain weight. Lots. The canne dis another matter, though, and I completely agree that it is overpriced. :(

I got an e-mail from Canidae today... here's what it said:

Dear Dana,

First of all we would like to acknowledge and apologize for the delay in our response time. There has been an apparent electronic glitch that sent some incoming e-mails to the incorrect file.

Dogs digestive systems become accustomed to digesting the same formula, and dogs due best when the diet is consistent. When you feed your dog another formula, or in the instance where we made slight changes, a Biological Acclimation within your dog must occur. Each dog will react differently when this acclimation occurs. Most dogs have no issues at all acclimating, while a slight percentage may experience loose stools. It is always best to mix your old food with a new diet over several days however this isn’t always possible. In this instance reduce the intake and increase the feedings per day with smaller portions to help speed up the adjustment period if your dog is overly sensitive to diet change. If you are among the few that are having a transitional issue we greatly apologize. Please realize we wouldn’t have gone through these changes if we weren’t making a better product. We are confident you will see the improvements once you are on our products and realize it’s are commitment to provide you a super high quality consistent diet your dog can thrive on.

Advances in nutritional pet information are constantly evolving. With this improved data, and after broad-spectrum analysis of all ingredients, as well as extensive feed testing, Canidae is providing the most nutritious, all natural, palatable products in the marketplace today.

We realize that not all pet foods are for all pets and we are very sorry to hear that this product did not work out for your dogs.

Our products are 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you like you may send us the UPC proof of purchase/best by dates along with a copy of this e-mail to the below address and we will send you a replacement coupon for the same size product /products of your choice. You may find that another of our Canidae products works better for your dog/dogs.

Sincerely,

Julie@Team Canidae

What I love about the email is the tone that their PRODUCT isn't the problem, it's you or your dog. You didn't transition correctly, not all dogs are the same, etc etc.

Why do these companies keep going mainstream?? Whatever happened to companies with a great PRODUCT with loyal customers?? Is it just the need for profit nowadays?

Sigh.

THANK YOU.

I'm annoyed... I DID transition, but just for the record - I could switch Maddie to anything (even garbage lol) cold turkey and she would be fine.

It'd be different if it was just Missy. She has a sensitive stomach sometimes. But its not just my dogs, its them, my parents 3 dogs, and my friends dogs. Dogs that don't live with me, and aren't eating out of the same bag. Sorry, no thanks! Not impressed

And I disagree with "dogs due best when the diet is consistent". but that's JMHO

I don't know about anyone else, but I think Julie needs to go back to school for some language arts skills. I can't believe a company would send out a letter with so many grammar and spelling errors. The funny thing is, I think Julie DID use spell check. The "spelling errors" are words that are just spelled incorrectly for the meaning.

So there is my pitch as the grammar police. lol.

I sugest Timber Wolf Organics, Innova, Solid Gold BATM, or Kirkland

I was feeding Canidae also, and started noticing that the dogs were having loose stools also.

I switched to Eagle Pack Holistic, then to Nutrisource because of price.

They have been on Nutrisource for 2 months now, and I couldn't be happier. No more loose poop or upset tummies. They love the taste also. My most finicky eater dives in.

Here's the website if you'd like to check it out.

This food looks pretty good, unfortunately it is not sold near me. :( I am feeding Annamaet right now. www.annamaet.com I had them all on Eagle Pack Holistic but it was getting to pricey so I switched to Eagle Pack Super Premium Food, which is easily digested and recommended for German Shepherds. Then I heard about this Annamaet so have had them on this, but think I'm going back to the Eagle Pack. They seem to like it better and something is giving my Standard Poodle horrific gas which puts us right out of the room.:yikes:
Anyone else have gas problems with their dogs?

I got 2 email responses from Canidae this morning. The 1st email was identical to the one above which they seem to be sending to everyone who inquires.

The 2nd email I got was this which basically says good luck with whatever you change to:

Dear Barbara,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our products
with us. We realize that not all pet foods are for all pets and we are very
sorry to hear that our product did not work out for you. We will seriously
consider your comments and concerns on future changes.
Sincerely,
Team Canidae

I'm thinking about going with TOTW. My only concern is that TOTW does not guarantee that their suppliers uses Ethoxyquin free ingredients. Is Ethoxyquin something to seriously worry about??
Wellness? Solid Gold? Chicken Soup...
On Taste of the Wild's FAQ page, they claim that the only preservatives they use are Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and rosemary extract.

Do you use any chemical preservatives?
Chemicals are not used to preserve any of our formulas. We use mixed tocopherols (vitamin E) to preserve the chicken fat in our pet foods. Added ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and rosemary extract in some of the formulas also have preservative effects.

Why not just feed them Kirkland? It is a good food, very reasonably priced and the formula never changes.
Good luck.
