I'd really like a Behavior section, for questions about digging, herding, instincts, the way dogs learn, etc. If I have a question about a behavior, but am not looking for ways to resolve it (like training) it doesn't really fit in the training forum. The next best thing is the general dog discussion forum, my only qualm with that is it gets lost amongst other discussions and can be hard to find again.

I'm not sure if I stand alone on this, or if other people agree, and I wonder how much hassle it would be to make another forum section, but I thought I'd at least mention that the idea crossed my mind and I would like to see it.

Thoughts?

To be honest, I don't see why questions like that (dog behavior and instincts to different breeds) can't stay in the general dog discussion. I find it hard to keep up with all the new posts with so many sub-forums.

Now if you wanted a sub-forum for questions about herding, bird dogs, tracking, SAR, therapy dogs, etc I could see a need for something like that.

Just my opinion, though.

Half the 'sport people' don't post even agility threads in the sport subforum. Can't forsee a new subforum on behaviour being used better.

I said no thankyou just because I often forget to check outside the fire hydrant, general and training. The other forums don't move as fast so I only really see them when they pop up in new posts.

My thoughts exactly.

Maybe it's time for an update to the Sports forum? I'd love to see that. Move it up under Pictures, or something?

Do we actually have any "working" traffic, or is it all sports and trials?
Jes with Boone and Tempie in SAR off the top of my head, we also have some that hunt with dogs and there might be some on here that have herding dogs that work not just trial but I'm not sure.

And that's just people active in it, not the ones that might be interested.

Kill the whole dog sports forum. Its either dog training or general dog bragging, and I'd like to see a little more traffic in training anyway.

I'd consider herding, SAR, bird dogs, etc to be 'working'. It may not be working like on a farm or for someones food, but in my mind there is a distinction between agility/dock diving/flyball and herding/SAR/bird dogs/hunting/etc. Between what's trained and what comes naturally by instinct. And since SAR is a literal JOB, I would put it in with working.

But I know that can be a heated topic for some, so it may not be worth it for this forum to change the way it is now.

Whatever the title may become, I would love to see the sports/working/trialing/competing side of the forum come more alive. I think we have more and more members wanting to/are competing. As activities become more popular, traveling becomes less and less of a problem, and training becomes more easily available, we'll see more and more people competing and trying to compete with their dogs.

SAR would definitely be working, and so would field hunting, but trials are under controlled conditions and are just that, trials, and not actual work, and so would fall under the auspices of sports.

Like a said, it's really neither here nor there what the title is. :)

But I want to point out I never said anything about herding trials. Just working stock - herding. I should have been more clear in my meaning.

Could easily be renamed into dog sports and work.. Whatever.

It's just that it isn't really used. People post their brags more often than not in the main dog area. It was used a little better when it was the top subsection in pet and dog fun.. but a lot of the board was happy when it was moved further down when Chazhound was bought. *shrug*

It would be nice if it was brought higher up, like under the pictures section or something.

It would be nice if this 'new' sub-forum had different venue rules (or links to rules?) for each sport (like rally, obedience, agility) as stickies. That would be very conveniet!

Or a sticky on how to teach 2x2 weaves. Or a sticky on rally signs and what they mean/how to teach them.

Just tossing out ideas. :)

I do think that the description for it is pretty silly since it's all about Agility

Discuss the sport of agility from training to trialing tips. Post agility photos here.
I like Lizmo's ideas

There are quite a few service dog owners and trainers, that would count as "work," too, right?

I tend to not scroll down past the Grooming forum, because that's all I can see on my screen at one time. :p And I do mostly look at Training/General Dog Chat/Fire Hydrant. I'd be really happy if both the Sports and Puppy forums were moved up, they seem to get more traffic than, say, Grooming.

*shrugs* But it doesn't much matter to me either way.

I will agree that the General Dog section seems to get bogged down, it might be good to try to split it into more subforums.

I've always been one to feel like a forum can have too many sections, honestly. I'd be happy with just a health, training, general dog, memorial, and off topic. I don't see why training and agility are any different, honestly, and I don't see why training and puppy would be different. I guess, with this forum, where we have so many pictures, the picture forum is helpful, but other that that how often are some of these sections really used? Like the meet up forum? News and articles? I dunno, that's just me. I know it's a bit off topic of the op.
