Because I am being lazy and too hot and didn't see it right away in Dog health and need a quick answer, how much canned pumpkin to give a constipated 80 lb shepard coon hound mix?My Mother who is 88 yrs old has hyper focused on her dog first thinking because he was off of his feed that he had a urinary track infection. I looked at him, no temp, and I always check teeth first when told a dog isn't eating, and found a big black hole in a molar, and palpated his abdomen and saw no tenderness or hardness, nor did he seem to act one bit different, bouncing about when I came in, his eyes didn't show discomfort, so I told her I didn't think it was a uti. Still she persisted and had my Brother come over and get a urine specimen which was checked and all was clear.
So she changed his diet feeding him rice and ground meat, and now he can't poop. I have never had to give a dog canned pumpkin in all these years, but I know that I have read it somewhere on here that it was the thing to do. I dont want to tell her to do so until I check on the amount.

She thinks because he has to go out ever few hours all night that the is ill. I said Mama you live by the creek just like me and baby racoons are down there squabbling all night long and I am sure he is hearing them and that is why. She said "well I don't hear them so I dont think that is it". I love her dearly I do I Do. I will take him to the vet for a dental. But first things first, the dog needs to go. So step one..if you can help. Please tell me before she goes ahead I don't want to make a bigger problem out of the problem he already has. Bangs head on wall. I would assume pumpkin is to loosen someone up, it doesn't seem like all that fiber would be used for the opposite. I swear I can't think or remember anything my brain is fried from the car.
