Last Friday I mailed out a bunch of resumes to vet clinics in the area, hoping I'd get lucky and get a response, even though none of them were advertising that they were hiring.

Right away on Monday I got a call from one wanting to set up an interview. SWEET I thought. It's a nice, relatively new building with up-to-date technology and seemed like it'd be a great place to work and get experience at... so needless to say I was excited about the opportunity.

They called me today and basically said, nevermind, we actually decided we'd rather hire someone with more experience so let's just cancel your interview. kthxbai.

I'm so bummed!!! :( I mean, I'm glad they canceled it if they KNOW they want more experience--I don't want to interview with people who have no intention of hiring me. Plus now I at least have my afternoon free tomorrow. But it was feeling like the stars were aligning for me and it sucks to have the opportunity dangled in front of me, and then taken away before they even get a chance to meet me. I could be AWESOME!!

All I do is rant about jobs these days, I sowwy. :p

What!! Ouch... harsh. =< I'm sorry. ((((HUGS)))) I've had a few of those where I get called for an interview and it becomes clear they aren't looking for somebody like me, and I wonder "why did you even bother calling me in..? We're all just wasting our time." But still, to set up the interview and then just cancel it on you? Yikes. X_X

It's so dumb. I mean, it seems logical to me that you would figure out what you are actually looking for in an employee before you start setting up interviews. I get that it's probably way easier to hire someone who has more experience and won't need as much guidance... but, obviously, when they originally called me, they couldn't have been too opposed to the idea that I don't have much experience.

Good thing I let that phone call go to voicemail though, otherwise I would have been a little "ummmm....what....?" and it probably would have been awkward haha.

One of the vets where I work now doing kennels said she actually prefers hiring new graduates, because then it's easier for her to teach them how to do things the way she likes it; as long as the schooling is there, she doesn't care about experience. I just need to find more people with that mindset apparently. Too bad she's not looking for another tech.

It's a catch 22. Can't get a job because I don't have experience; don't have experience because I can't get a job.

Awww....that sucks. I hope you'll come across someone like the vet you describe, who likes a fresh slate to train. I bet it will happen eventually. You'll just have to raise the odds by making as many contacts as possible. I do hope the best for you.
