We just noticed a couple days ago a large bulge between two of Dozer's toes. I know it's new since late August, which is when I trimmed his nails last, but I can't say for sure when it appeared. It doesn't appear to bother him, he lets me touch it and apply light pressure. It's soft/squishy, not red, no sign of a bite or anything. I'm going to find a vet today (just relocated) but I thought I'd ask the experts first! I took a picture but my camera isn't uploading for some reason. I'll be back with a picture soon.

Any ideas?

I honestly dont know, but I have seen these a lot with dogs that I groom. Usually the dogs with funky skin and allergies seem to have it. but i really have no idea what it is, or why its there.

Let us know what the vet says! Id love to know

This occurred after you trimmed his nails? Maybe you trimmed on the quick that's why it got inflamed. Check his nails if you accidentally damaged the quick. Or if you remember him in pain while trimming his nails.

It isn't from his having his nails trimmed. He hasn't had them trimmed since August, and I know he did have this as late as Sept. 4th. I never trim to the quick or even close.

Here's a pic:

Ohnoz!!!! That's looks EXACTLY like what he has! I don't like the sound of it...long term antibiotics and multiple infections?? Poor guy :(

I was hoping for something more benign....off to search for a vet now.

Pepper had one of those. It took a steroid injection to make it go away.

Spiritwind, how long did it take to clear up in your collie?

I don't really recall how long it took to clear up. It has been easily 5-6 yrs ago. But I don't think it took THAT long to treat and clear up. I think she was on some sort steroid, like prednisone for a week... and antibiotics for maybe a week or two. It really didn't seem as hard to treat and get rid of as all those articles online, say it is. IMO

Pepper's was right on the joint so the other toe rubbing against it caused her pain. STeroids scare the crap out of me but the vet said that was what it would take. It cleared up in about a week.
