Dogs can suffer from allergies to Brewers Yeast. I don't know if your using it as flea control or not...but, I would take your dog off it for a few months to see if it clears up.

If the ears don't clear up (of course clean them to help them clear up - I use steeped green tea, diluted and room temp to clean my dogs ears)

You could always dust diamateous earth on your dog for flea control...and around your yard.

unless an individual dog is sensitive or allergic to nutritional/brewer's yeast, there shouldn't be an issue at all. i include it as one of the supplements i rotate and never observed any ear gunk buildup.

if any particular kind of food causes gunk in the ears, it doesn't agree with the individual and should be avoided.

It's weird.... When I took on Chip at 4 years old, I was told that he had major ears issues and she supplied me with all his meds. I've NEVER had a problem with his ears ! Why ???? I even bought special things to dry his ear when swimming this summer... nothing !!!

I don't know if it's something shepherds are prone to, (maybe someone else does) BUT when Hammie was younger he sure had alot of wax!! I clean his ears routinely, and just recently noticed they are now 'normal' and not sooo gunky. (he's now just over 2 yrs.) I've also heard people say shepherds are prone to ear infection.....I don't know if that's true, either. Ham had a bad ear infection at 7 mos., but since I've been constant with the cleaning...no problems. does Roy have alot of wax?? I just am curious....maybe it was just Ham. :)

Hi Debi,

Roy was on Iams Smart Puppy since 8 weeks of age until he was 6 months old. For that period he had an unbelievable amount of wax especially in his left ear. I had to clean his ears about 2-3 times / week. Since I took him off Iams , that was about 3 months ago, wax magically just vanished. Poof ... gone. I haven't seen any wax since. I just clean his ears once every 2 weeks or so. I guess it was something in Iams. The reason for my main post is that I have him now on Natural Blend, from Royal Canin and I have noticed very little wax start to re-appear. It's not anything major not even close to what it used to be with Iams but I am keeping an eye on it anyway.
