Breeds I wanted at some point then learned more about then/met some and realized they would be a horrible fit:
- Bernese Mountain Dog
- Saluki
- Irish Setter (count me as another Kjelgaard reader when I was young)
- Huskies
- Canaan Dog. I was actually a couple weeks away from picking up my Canaan puppy (some here may remember) when I elected to give Webby a shot and forfeited my deposit because bringing in a puppy before resolving Webby's issues would have been dumb. I'm glad I did. At least from the Canaans I've met, their hype and the sort of romanticism that is put around the breed just serves as a front to some really strange dogs. Not in just in a primitive sort of way, but real mental messes. I'm sure there are nice ones out there I just haven't been impressed with the individuals I've since met.

Other breeds I used to want and don't really think I'll ever own though they would probably more or less fit my lifestyle:

- Labs. Had a great one growing up but I just don't care for any of the directions their main breeding lines are going in general. Or their coats. I like a lot of individuals but can't see myself owning one -- I prefer FCRs and Goldens.

- Malinois. I like just about everything about what I understand a good Malinois should but reality seems so hit-or-miss. I mean I've known about 10 in person well enough to get a good feel for them and they are all over the board. From little drive to little biddability to mental wrecks to extremely reactive to really upright builds or huge dogs. Maybe one has been what I picture my ideal Malinois to be, both physically and mentally. Also their tendency to bite first think later annoys me lol.

Oooh and I thought I wanted a newfie too...totally not what I would want now. There was one that boarded that had SERIOUS odor, I believe from drooling on his chest, and nothing helped that dog. And I'm talking you walked into the kennel wing he was in, 26 kennels, and all you could smell was him.

German Shepherd. Now don't get me wrong I do love them a lot but they just aren't the breed for me.

I used to want a Weim so badly. Then I wanted a Chessie for a while, but went back to Weims. For a brief time, I was really into labs, but working in a dog kennel full of under-worked adolescent labs for a summer was enough to make me lose interest.

I also went/am still going through a terrier phase...

From ages 5 through ~14 my dream dog was a golden retriever. I think it started from watching the Homeward Bound movies. I had golden books, golden stuffed animals, golden calendars and posters and anything else you could name. I would even look through the classifieds in the newspaper as a kid and circle all the golden retriever litters.

I don't know why or even when exactly my crazy want for one died down. I think around 14 I got really into learning about dog breeds, joined some forums, etc and it opened my eyes to how many more amazing breeds were out there. When I was able to get another dog at 16, I went for my Brittany, or as I like to call him, my "off brand" sporting breed. :p I still love a good golden, and would consider owning one someday, but I've also met so many mediocre mill/BYB/whatever goldens in the mean time that they're not really a dog I'm interested in pursuing anymore.

See I am the opposite. Up until VERY recently I would have said I would absolutely never own a golden but I could definitely see myself with the right golden these days. I've seen some really awesome ones lately that I would love owning.

When I was young I always knew someday I'd have an Old English Sheepdog...I still think they're adorable. But I want a running companion even in the heat. Plus the grooming, one longhaired cat is enough...prefer my doggies wash and wear now.

Sibes. I used to be OBSESSED. I was 100% certain that I was going to own one as soon as I was able. And now I'm like.... no. Never.

Aussies as well. Not that I wouldn't want an Aussie - but after I "discovered" BCs I felt like they would fit better.

Saint Bernard....I am not saying never but...

I grew up with Saints....totally in love with the breed and couldnt wait to have one again but man, saints are just not the same as they used to be. Their temperament, their heads...makes me sad.

I've always loved Labs.

I went through a few breed phases over the course of the last ten years are so. LOL Boxer, Rottweiler, Basset Hound, Ibizan Hound, Akita, APBT, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Spanish Mastiff, Tibetan Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Old English Bulldog/Leavitt Bulldog...those are the ones I remember.

I still want a Lab and either a Rottweiler or Chessie is on my list of breeds to own.
Boxers, Bassets, Akitas, Beezers, Tibetans, and Neos...I've decided as a breed they aren't my cup of tea, but if the right dog came along I wouldn't say no.
I would consider a OEB/LB, AmBulldog, or the right rescue generic Pit Bull.
And if I ever have acerage and need a LGD, or just want a BIG dog, I'm so getting a Spanish Mastiff.

... I think now I would get a Cardi if I were to get a Corgi, anyways.
That's right, come to the dark side. We have tails! :D

Um, I don't really remember, I think I wanted every dog as a kid?

I think I went through a Golden Retriever phase after getting Macky. Now if I wanted my Macky type dog I'd just get a field-line cocker from Ollie's breeder, he's a pretty cool little guy.

Koolies, I guess... fun dogs, not for me though.

Oh, and a GSD, I was really into that idea for a little bit but not really my cup of tea. I still appreciate a good one though.

I always wanted a white GSD. Now I realise it would just be too much for me to handle.

Other than that, the breeds I always wanted, I think I will probably have.

1. Goldens (and wow there are a lot of us! lol) I loved airbud :D
I grew out of them I suppose... I still would LOVE a golden and love goldens in general but yea.. finding the right breeder is a whole nother issue.

Plus my entire family is traumatized because for some reason every golden in our building has a particular (awful) smell!

2. American Eskimo (random right?! lol) I dunno.. this was when I was pretty young and saw them in a book and they were fluffy and cute. Plus they don't shed I believe..and at the time my parents didn't allow any dog that shed.

3. GSD. Really into them for a while but alas, I grew up and started renting apartments and discovered that they are allowed basically nowhere

4. Husky LOLOLOLOLOLOL
I had a best friend who had one.
I heard people say that they shed a lot or whatever but the dog was sweet and I never saw in hair anywhere

... then I met another husky, at a friends home who didn't have a live in housekeeper.
HAIR. THE HAIR WAS EVERYWHERE!! IN CORNERS!! ON CHAIRS!!
So yea, that idea was nixed lol

I wanted a tri Pemmie SO BADLY. That was my dream dog. I still really like Corgis but that dream has definitely died down... I think now I would get a Cardi if I were to get a Corgi, anyways.
I went through a big Corgi phase but I liked Cardi's cause they came in merle and had bigger ears :rofl1: That was around my ACD phase too, I have since then decided both are too.....cattle dogish

Oh and I went through a Cane Corso, Bulldog, APBT phase too. But I decided lack of DA was a big need
