I'm looking for some good books on breeding. Does anybody have one they recommend or have any free web sites that give really good info?

Thanks!

One of my all time favorite books is Pat Craige Trotter's Born to Win Breed to Succeed. It's less about the mechanics of breeding and more about how to create an incredible breeding program- but it's worth EVERY penny. Pat Trotter is an absolute *genius.* If you've heard of the Vin Melca Elkhounds, you know who I'm talking about.

Give it a look!

The Book of the Bitch is another nice one- this is probably more what you're looking for, but if you can, I urge you to get both of them. You won't regret it.

Being a believer in the best pups come from the breeders who get the most out of the care and socializing of pups from day one...I still go by my " Bible " ! Yes, the breeding program comes first ... but the first 8 weeks of a puppy's life is what the new owners will have forever.

Most of them include a good section on whelping, but not necessarily puppy rearing.

Another good one is Successful Dog Breeding by Wilcox and Walkowicz.

The three I recommended are in my personal library, and are all 3 excellent.

Many more good ones can be found at http://www.dogwise.com

It's the puppy rearing that I liked . There's one week where they say " ...if you don't spend x amount of minutes with each puppy this week, YOU ARE A VERY BAD BREEDER " , boy did that catch my eye !

Here are a couple books that are good to have on hand-
The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies by Muriel P. Lee. A complete and practical guide.

Canine Reproduction by Phyllis A. Holst, MS, DVM. The breeders guide 2nd edition.
