Scooter is 7 months old now. His mom, I am told, was a Beagle/Sheltie mix. I did meet her when I adopted Scooter and I'd have to agree. She was about 15-20 pounds, Beagle coloring and size (stocky, long body, Beagle face) with Sheltie ears and fur length. They had no clue what the dad was, but the child that was there told me they saw a black and tan, knee height, dog running with the mom. Scooter currently weighs about 30 pounds I'd say. He had lost a lot of weight when he was sick and he's working on gaining it back. He's still a little skinny. I took some pictures today, any idea what dad may have been? I'm so curious!

Dad was an Indiana Shade Lounger. :) In all seriousness, your baby is looking an awful lot like a hound-type dog and not too much sheltie! So maybe some kind of Foxhound or Harrier type hound that has the longer legs to give Scooter her height.

LOL. When I worked for the local animal shelter we'd call the mixed breeds "Ohio County Specials"

Right now he's underweight because about a month or two ago he was really sick and lost a ton of weight. We're working on slowly getting his weight back on him, which is difficult because he's still a growing puppy!

I really don't see any Sheltie in him. I would say that he's some kind of Beagle/Some Other Hound cross. Very cute!

Well, Beagle/Sheltie is what the owner of the mom told me. And I'd really have to agree, she just looked like it. She was Beagle size and was tricolor but had long hair and half pricked ears. They said they had met her parents and that's what she was.
I'd say the other type of Hound cross is very possible... the way the kids described the dog, it sounded like a medium sized black and tan hound mix... around here people breed Beagles and Coonhounds (usually either Walkers or English) to make their hunting dogs.
