Border Terriers

Ok, so I've taken all the breed selectors I can find online and I know some are not very accurate, but I have gotten the border terrier as #1 or 100% most of the times. So now I am curious about the breed. I'm going to look at past threads on them, but if anyone wants to talk about them. I know I've seen them on avitars around here.

I find it depends a lot on the breeding of the border terrier. Some are VERY terrier and there are some that still hunt (not many mind you) but most are NOT very terrier (compared to JRTs that is)

They don't have the edge to them that the JRTs do, even the hunting ones.

They are still more terrier than many of the others so can be a bit challenging to train if you are not used to terriers. They make great dog sports dogs if you get a drivey one!

I see you have gerbils, you might need to keep them very very separate, as in the gerbils are in a room the dog is NEVER allowed into.

I like BT's. Depending on what you plan to do with them, coat, etc...there is some coat work if you chose to show in conformation. I agree with the above poster, in that depending on the lines, they can be less terrier, yet still terrier.

I do have a friend that breeds them, and she is able to run them in large packs as that was one of their purposes in her image of the ideal dog. Not ALL, but some or even many, and even same sexes, which is not always the case with some breeds.

Of course, she knows her dogs, and has been in the breed for a few decades.

if you want them to do terrier work (ratting, vermin destruction) then get a working border from britain.
