Jess, I'm sorry for the amount of inconvenience it caused you. NSFW tags for things even remotely racy next time then.

And like I said - I enjoy putting things in places they don't belong - or showing things to their complete opposite demographics. And in general just shaking things up abit.

I'm lucky enough that I currently work with a firm that is very artsy, liberal, open, and un-constrictive - as long as we show up to work on time, get our jobs done properly, and do them well - it doesn't matter what we watch on our machines. The bosses and pretty much everyone else don't really give a flying sh!t. Even facebook/personal stuff is fine at work as long as it doesn't interfere or take away time from our primary duties or the quality of our work; if we put 5 minutes into FB, those 5 minutes or more get put back into work again later.

My previous jobs have been pretty lax about what we view on the internet too. Again - the emphasis always was as long as work and quality of it isn't compromised; feel free to view what you'd like.

Quick note about the sex thing -

I knew the proper words for my anatomy, their functions, and quite a few aspects of adult sexuality by 5 - 6. My Dad moreso than my mom was quite laissez-faire about health/sexual education - I was never really "guided" into it by either of my parents, there was never a formal "talk". I was given access to books, internet, research materials, magazines, puberty videos etc and just allowed to explore, read, and learn. I'd like to say my attitude towards such matters today is one of good humor, knowledge, and a comfortable view =)

I can't even get on Chaz at all at work because it contains the word "marijuana" lol. Personally, I consider opening links that people post at work as a "enter at your own risk" deal. You never know what could be in there, or what others find to be appropriate, so if you (collective) just hold you horses and wait until you get home no harm no foul.

While I can't say that I enjoyed the video particularly and I'm not at into Anime at all. However, to say that it's downright porn is a bit much. And demographics? Sure, a lot of us are not into it, but apparently some do enjoy Anime. And who's to say that the OP would know who likes what. Or maybe she just wanted thoughts on it. I wasn't aware that there is a rule to follow about what we can and can't share here. I think we've had waaaay more raunchy discussions here. Nobody seemed to have a problem with that, ever, or demanded things to be tagged?

To me, the warning was enough NOT to open it at work.

I honestly not really into anime - I've watched most miazaki (sp?) movies, but thats about it. I did enjoy those - and I love kiki's delivery service, but other than that. meh.
So I can't really say I thought the video - but thats because I don't like anime. ;)

my opinion on the video--not my thing--either in the animation or the subject.
My opinion on "warnings" and work--guess I'd say if you are at work, you should always err on the side of caution--it is after all--YOUR work setting, environment, etc. Everyone has different situations and different abilities/leeway when it comes to internet use, it seems. So if you click on a link...well, I guess you take your chances, since no one is making you do it--you are making that decision.
I think this thread had ample enough warning for me to not click on it--until I could at home. Each person has to use their own judgment. My .02.

HEY. I abhor anime but do not knock on Pokemon :lol-sign:

It's a pretty ridiculous show/franchise but I grew up on that show and loved every moment of it. And Digimon, and Sailor Moon, and yes, I loved those, too.

But that aside, anime gets fairly atrocious... with a few exceptions. And I've had more than enough friends try to convince me otherwise, so I'm not just using Pokemon to generalize all of anime. Some of it is too creepy, many have random moments catering to certain fetishes (and I don't mean anime porn, I mean the mainstream stuff), many are altogether too similar (which is not just an anime issue, of course), and there's the exaggerations in voice/expression/characterization.

I am more than open to changing my opinion. I LOVE Hayao Miyazaki. I just finished watching The Secret World of Arrietty (screenplay written by Miyazaki) with my younger sister and adored it. I disliked Ponyo, though found it extremely cute. Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favorite movies of all time, it's a classic. The soundtrack for Princess Mononoke was beautiful (as was everything else about the movie). Spirited Away is another favorite. I liked Grave of the Fireflies well enough, too (though it isn't Miyazaki).

If anyone wants to watch beautiful and bittersweet anime movies, I strongly recommend Makoto Shinkai's movies. The quality and animation is stunning (more so the scenery rather than the character styles). Comparable to Miyazaki but not at all "feel good" types. Very simplistic. Children Who Chase Lost Voices was fantastic, a little Miyazaki-esque, actually. 5 Centimeters Per Second and The Place Promised in Our Early Days are both great, and I haven't gotten around to watching Voices of a Distant Star yet.

Most of the anime I've watched is Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli. I have seen a few series and liked some of them. Other ones people rave about, I did not like. Ex: I thought Wolf's Rain was terrible and only saw about half before deciding I couldn't bear any more.

I didn't watch ANY anime until college because i thought it was for nerds. :p I had a bunch of nerd friends that watched it. I'm very glad I've opened up to at least watching Studio Ghibli because they're really very interesting. I loved Totoro in particular. It made me cry. lol

I nee to see Arietty.

I was forced into watching pokemon EVERY SINGLE morning by my sister when I was in junior high. She'd cry if I tried to change the channel. she was obsessed (and like... 7) and did pokemon tournaments and beat all the teenagers. Just the other day she found one of her pokemon movies and was telling me how awesome it was. Plugged it in then realized how terrible it really was.

I would point out, ihartgonzo even had a post like that.
Lol... most of those people just said it was weird, or not the right demographic. That doesn't mean they're horrifically offended and think it should be deleted! Yeesh

I don't know many people who wouldn't think that was bizarre, but it's definitely interesting. I said it reminds me of gross octopus porn because, ummm, have you seen asian octopus porn? Where they stick octopus tentacles up vaginas? Like, real human beings who are nude? That is not safe for work!!! haha I'd never call the video in question PORN, however.

Just because you don't care for something, or find it creepy, doesn't mean you can't respect it as art.

If all of you Studio Ghibli fans want a bit more, there's a decent amount of good, completely PG, well-animated amazing films coming out of Japan these days. Here, have some trailers.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, about a schoolgirl who can suddenly time travel, and the mess that comes with.

From the same studio, Summer Wars is awesome too. Combines classic Japanese dysfunctional family life with Second Life style technological warfare. ;)

Metropolis. A movie made in 2001 based on Osamu Tezuka's manga from the 60's. BTW, he's the dude who also created Astroboy. :)

Tekkonkinkreet borders on the weird, but it's extremely artistic and gorgeous without the use of sex and tentacles!

Also check out Tokyo Godfathers. Actually, check out anything by Satoshi Kon. Except Perfect Blue. That will eff you up.

I LOVED Metropolis. That was one of my favorite movies back in highschool!

Lol wtf did I just watch.

Personally I just thought it was kind of... stupid. I wasn't grossed out or horrified I just have no clue what was happening or why. Anime in general though is really not my thing, unless it's of the Pokemon or Digimon variety.

And that is exactly why I don't click random links without knowing how safe it is.

Amen sister

Can't expect everyone to hold your hand and make sure all is OK. You click it... It is your responsibility if you get caught lol amd if it causes you nightmares or the need for counselling lol

It is wise to be prudent about clicking links on the internet, but having said that... NSFW tags are a fairly commonly expected and widely practiced courtesy on many, many forums including some pretty shifty sites IME... and only four extra letters. *shrug*

My 2 cents:

It was depicting a sexual act (yes for all of 1 second :p) but it isn't porn, porn is explicit... depictions of dry humping or even humping under a sheet to enhance a storyline aren't porn, and neither was this.

And yeah, you do have to be careful clicking anything that sounds "iffy" on the net.

That said I do get what Jess is saying, because when I first read the title and warnings I was not at all expecting what I saw :lol-sign: When we got to the tentacle and anime part the warning bells started going off but for some reason I was still mildly surprised by the content. The descriptors made me think it was something gross, not racy.

I get her point about the NSFW tag because yeah... I also remember the warnings that were put in for pictures of spiders (which I still find ridiculous). Yes there's been raunchy jokes and posts, but being text, they are way easier to conceal and still often had some kind of warning in the title.

Sass is right, if reddit can put in NSFW tags then so can Chaz. Which StephyMei said she would. It's just one of those things, hopefully nothing catastrophic happened and in the future, if you're posting something a bit inappropriate just slip a NSFW in there somewhere :)

This is the internet, anything with the word "Bizarre" should be treated as NSFW. If anyone watched past 30 seconds at work, I have no sympathy.

I think I like my videos to be a bit more straight forward though. I think that was actually a morality tale, but what exactly? Your friends will kill you if they have sex? Its hard enough keeping mainstream stuff like Fullmetal Alchemist straight :p

Thank GOODNESS - I think you're the first (along with another Chazzer on this thread) to say that you didn't like Wolf's Rain. Everyone else tells me it is mindblowingly amazing. Frankly, I did not like it at all, and tried to watch it on multiple occasions. It just didn't do anything for me. The characters, the style, the futuristic aspect, the story line, the dialogue, the subplots... just didn't like it. I think I remember the picture quality was nice? And that was pretty much it.

Oh, I also remember thinking that they (the characters) really needed to get over themselves. I remember finding the anime just overly angsty. There's bittersweet and there's heartwrenching sad and there's poignant but that show was just a lot of angsty people/wolves.

I watched Miyazaki as a child, went through a phase around middle school and watched mainstream and obscure anime, and decided that it was for nerds in high school. I think near the end of high school I started to look for good anime because I rewatched Miyazaki and remembered how much I loved it. Didn't really have much luck except with a few Studio Ghibli and Makoto Shinkai films. I DID like The Girl Who Lept Through Time okay (mentioned in Allie's post), but it wasn't great and I wouldn't rewatch it.

Watch Arrietty! I loved it. It made my sister cry, but she cries at the end of every Miyazaki film (except for Ponyo, we sort of didn't know what to think after Ponyo. Actually, after Arrietty, she burst out loudly "thank god Miyazaki did not pull another 'Ponyo', I thought he was going downhill like Tim Burton).

Pokemon is like one of those things that are so horrible you can't help but not watch. Plus, you know, nostalgia. If it makes you feel any better, my sister is 17 in October and still plays Pokemon on her DS with a frenzy. She keeps updated on all things Pokemon (she does hate the show, though).
