I don't enjoy much "mainstream" anime. And, unfortunately, mainsteam is considered the bulk of anime. Not true at all.

I enjoy Clannad, LOVED Angel Beats, Blood+, FLCL, etc, etc...Not so much all the others you always hear people raving about. Death Note was nothing special to be, for example. Wolf Rain was okay. Not amazing. Full Metal Alchemist...meh.

EDIT: Actually, Angel Beats made me straight up bawl at the end, and in several moments throughout the series. No joke. It has it's funny parts, but it is very sad. Lovely music, too.

Clannad was good, but I watch Kanon before it and it was way too similar and it is the type of anime that has the same formula of many other animes. Blood+ was interesting at times but drag on too long. I don't get what people like about FLCL. It was okay, but nothing special.

For me, anime must bring something new to the table for me to spend time watching it. And it must avoid the big over 80% of the face eyes style.

I got through 15 minutes of Ponyo. That was 15 minutes I'd have rather spent in the dentist's chair.

Kiki's Delivery Service and Totoro were the only movies Aurelia could manage to watch when she was younger. She went through this period where any sort of antagonist was terrifying and way too intense. Even Ponyo's dad was too scary.

Yeah, I'm way less judgmental of anime than I am with shows and movies with actors. There's only a handful of movies I can enjoy watching, and less tv shows. For the same reason you said for anime, really. Low standards, everything is constantly the same, with a new face and poor acting. Hate the effects, lack of thought, and etc.

For me, it's far easier to deal with that in anime than people who get paid thousands to create such crap like reality tv, Breaking Bad, USA tv shows, Twilight, etc, etc.

I've never even known what anime was, tbh. lol. It's something I always, like, heard about it... or knew the dorky kids from school were into (lol, sorry, that's all I remember) but I never actually KNEW what it was.

If it's all anything like this, wtf. I'm all into appreciating different things and I really really love movies with deep meaning, etc, but I dunno... that was just plain WEIRD.

I don't think I could get into it either way though, even if it wasn't something this off as the OP video.

Just want to say, this definitely needed a "PORN" or at least a "not safe for work" label on it. I'm gonna be in trouuuuuble. :-/
Just thought I should quote this and reiterate the point - luckily I read other people's posts before watching it. Is this the new Chazhound now? We get to post porn? I suppose that makes the nasty spam problem easier to deal with.

Your talking to someone who barely even watches tv in the first place.:p I can name the list of US shows I keep up with in one hand.

You see, I've been watching (obsessing) over anime since I was ten. My standards have grown higher due to that. I use to watch any anime that catched my eye, but now some things that never use to brother now does (pathetic anime girls being one) so now I'm a lot more picky.

ETA I like Ponyo, but it is definitly for a required taste. My mom and dad both fell asleep while watching it.

Wait. I'm pretty exhausted, but is Breaking Bad seriously in this line up or am I missing something? I ask because that show is so good that I can't even imagine this.. not as a joke.

Mods have changed titles when threads contain spiders or feet to give a warning in the past, but apparently this was ok without one...

I agree with the not suitable for work, but porn??
Yeah, definitely not porn. I just watched an episode of Tosh.0 that had the same sexual act depicted by live people on an internet video (minus the tentacles). I'm not sure that would get anything more than a PG-13.
95% of the people at my work place (volunteers, employees and customers) are 60+. I called it as I knew they would see it as (and sure enough, they did)

I mean, she said it may be disturbing in the title. And prefaced the link with "Proceed with caution please - anyone squeamish, easily spooked, or grossed out please don't view." Does she really need to plaster "WARNING - DO NOT OPEN - NOT SAFE FOR WORK - BEWARE!!!!" all over the place? If I was at work I would not open that video, with her post being as it was.

It doesn't have any nudity in it. There are no genitals in it. I'd let my neice watch it, and LOL at her reaction. :D

It doesn't take much to write "not safe for work". Did I say she needs "WARNING - DO NOT OPEN - NOT SAFE FOR WORK - BEWARE!!!!" all over the place? No.

All she said was it may be disturbing in the title. Then before the link she said "not for the squeamish". Squeamish means you are easily made to feel sick/faint or disgusted. I am not, so I opened the link, thinking it was something about, you know, an animal (I know, on a pet forum, CRAZY THOUGHT), that many people post.

People are living very, very VERY sheltered lives if that is considered porn.

I didn't even find it disturbing..... I liked it! And I find anime DULL!!!

Really? You'd let a child watch that?

Any child that knows about sex...which should be ALL of-age "children"...I don't see a problem with it.

Unless they throw up a gore. Or are so protected they have 6 kids at 16 because they don't know how babies are made.

It's honestly not all that bad to me, there are far, far worse things out there that most highschoolers probably already see daily in school among their peers.
