Getting Mirena soon :)
I am on the pill, and fine with it. Totally agree with Beanie on that front, I have been on MANY kinds of pills. None MADE me gain weight, some made me hungrier..some made me lazier.. but none of them PUT the weight on lol

but spoke to my doctor and he agrees Mirena might be an easier permanent option.
Oooo, please let me know how it goes or update here!

Also with Yaz especially, my activity level did not change and neither did my diet and I just started packing on the pounds. I was 180 lbs before birth control, and then bloated up to 260! It was awful and I can't stand to look at photos... Thank God I now weigh 205 and after pregnancy I plan to hit the gym hard and get down to 170. I will never touch a pill again.

Anyone here have an inveron? I've considered that but I think the little thing in my arm would freeeeeak me out. Heebie jeebies just thinking about it.

for me, They irritate the crap out of my lady parts lol. I mean I used them when I was younger and wasn't married but now? no thanks lol. I have a great marriage with a faithful husband and IF I did get pregnant it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world and if it were a big issue he would get snipped and I would get tied. But condoms just do not agree with my body chemistry.
Yup, this. I can't stand them. So much so that having sex with one is just really not pleasurable. I like it sooo much better without one.

This. . . I realized a lot of my issues were related to condoms when I stopped using them. I would get yeast infections and UTIs pretty regularly. They abruptly stopped when I quit. And sex definitely felt better - more sensation, almost no chafing.

Disclaimer: Do not discontinue condom use until you are in a monogamous relationship and both of you have been tested for and are clean from any sexually transmitted diseases. Make sure you have another highly effective method of birth control in place if you do.

Barbara, in regards to the Mirena... I say go for it. My first six months was rough. So rough I almost had it yanked out. I was miserable, and had every side effect you could possibly have. Now that my body is used to it, it's fantastic - best BC I've ever used. I'd ideally like my tubes tied, but no one will do that for me for another 10-15 years.

The fact that sex is better without condoms is not some new revelation for me :rofl1: I mean, it seems to be common sense.. but as nolu said, you've gotta be careful. They are another layer of protection and yes that means less sensitivity, less feeling, more chaffing. but it's a safety procaution and I would think long and hard before deciding to go without.

AND MAKE SURE BOTH YOU AND YOUR PARTNER GET TESTED.
GETTING TESTED IS SEXY!
Ok, not it's not. But it's necessary if you are going to forgo protection IMO. Love, trust, passion, it's all well and good but he/she might not even KNOW he/she has something.. better safe than sorry.

I've had good luck with Okamoto Crown Condoms (they are quite thin and can be found on amazon) for those who aren't comfortable with going without the extra protection/safety of a condom. It doesn't quite feel like going without but it's close!

I would also re-iterate that having a plan-b pill around ON HAND is a great step in playing it safe.
Nobody wants to go zipping around CVS at 3 in the morning or 6 AM in a panic because the condom broke, because he didn't pull out fast enough, etc..etc.. so it's a nice thing to just HAVE.

Especially if you are using "Pull & Pray" :rofl1: we are all human, we make mistakes, all the blood is rushing to the wrong head and yea, sh*t happens sometimes.

same. I didn't automatically equate it to condom use until we hadn't been using them and voila, sex didn't result in discomfort and itching for days anymore. I guess it was effective birth control because who wants to have sex when their nether regions are aflame LOL.

and absolutely yes to the bolded red part :hail:

BTW, if you have a care provider who is refusing to do a tubal or other permanent form of BC before you hit a certain age you should seek a second or third opinion. There are NO age requirements for permanent birth control unless you are on Medicaid, in which case tubals aren't covered until after age 21.

You're paying the doctor and have final say in all health care decisions, they need to respect your choices!

I've been lucky in that condoms dont bother me at all, in fact, I prefer them (TMI but I love not having a mess - I get to be the one to roll over and go to sleep ;) ).

Other forms of BC (hormonal ones) seem to send my body into a tailspin. I have been looking into an ablation but its a bit scary (and is not a from of bc....you can get pregnant and then have a uterine rupture). DH was supposed to have gotten a vasectomy by now but we jut havent gotten around to scheduling it

Pregnancy sucks far worse than any birth control, IMO. :D
Yep I have sensitivities to spermicidal lubed condoms. I just buy the non lubed kind & use hypoallergenic water based lube. Sometimes if I "do it" too much I find I get a tad irritated but if I wash the "area" with baby wash or any brand of hypoallergenic soap right after the "deed" every time I don't notice any irritation.

I so want to get my tubes tied :( but still would use condoms just to be safe I think.

But what I read about the complications from tubal legation & they kind of scare me lol

I didn't realize I was allergic to latex for a long time; I just thought that's how sex felt.

Switching to a non-latex condom solved a lot of those problems, lol.

I would love to have a hysterectomy but I think when I 'settle down' I'm going to try pushing for future hubby to have a vasectomy. My hormones are already messed up, the less hormone changing birth control I have to use the better. :)

Mine are like clockwork so the last thing I want IS for them to be messed up.

When we do condoms we are very careful ... We make sure they Re in good condition & that the exp date is good, we are firm believers in "when in doubt throw them out!" Also although we both know how to put them on (lol) OH is usually the one to do that mostly because ... His hands are less rough then mine (from yrs of hard labor I have some mean callouss lol lol) & I am uh ... Afraid that I will damage the condom hahaha :rofl1:

We Are also very careful when "pulling out" as to not spill a drop! Also the no mess thing is a plus too ;) :D

Lucky you... Lmao. Even with a condom I make a mess all on my own. (TMI.)

I have a copper IUD and it's great! I was always uncomfortable with the idea of hormonal birth control, tried the nuva ring for a few months once and had a panic attack (I think...it was never diagnosed as anything else so I'm assuming that's what it was) and it's possible it was related...anyway, didn't want to use anything hormonal after that. I was incredibly lucky with using condoms or nothing for 5 or more years before I got the IUD. I would advise against the brand "Flexi-T" as I've heard it has a much higher rate of slipping.

I always want to recommend IUDs to people...they are a WAY underused method of birth control I think! Really effective, and the side effects are not nearly as bad as a lot of people seem to think. A lot of people think you can't get them if you haven't had children yet but this is simply not the case. Copper IUDs supposedly can cause heavier periods or more cramping but I have noticed neither of these. The process of having it put in was super simple and not painful. I also keep track of my cycle and try to use condoms during the fertile days, just to be on the safe side.

That's what I was considering doing, since it doesn't have hormones. But when I went to my Dr. she told me she had just had hers removed because she basically bled for an entire year.. so yeah.. I didn't end up getting that. Back to square one I suppose!

I would give it a try! Myself and a number of my friends all have them and no one has had any issues. It's possible of course but then it is with any form of birth control.

i want my tubes tied/cut whatever they do now.

I know i will never have kids ... ever & honestly news that i am preggers would be the absolute WORST thing EVER to happen to me.

i just wish i could afford it :(, but i will look into PP & see what kind of deal they can cut me on legation.

though i have heard that going to PP is bad because they sometimes dont have the best care since they are 'bargin' is this true?

I've been to multiple Planned Parenthoods, and I've had nothing but fantastic care from them. Better than many "traditional" medical practices.
Same here. In fact, I have found the doctors to be more informed about different BC methods.

Make sure they actually are cheaper. I checked PP when I didn't have insurance and it was more expensive than going to my old doctor.
