"Basic Black Dog". Any breed guesses?

There is a growing trend here (in NC) to dock pits tails as pups, so it could well be a full pit.

75# is a a BIG pit and the head is dane-ish, but i see something sheperdy. i'm thinking daneXmal, daneXheeler, daneXdutchie, or even a heavier mastiff like a bullmastiff X something sheperd and so dropping a head that winds up dane-ish. reminds me of some of the early donovan pinschers that had more bull.

Corso wouldn't be out the question, now that I look at him again. And that dock length is the Corso type of dock.

Corso's ears don't need to be posted do they? Or taped rather? Possibly a large corso/pit mix

What a cutie. I would say Boxer/"Pit Bull" mix. The dog looks to have bat ears, not cropped ears.

Corso's have cropped ears, I think they're drop-eared naturally. The ears look really pitty to me.

His head makes me think of Ella! Pit mix at the least, maybe a pure pit with a docked tail?

Thanks all for the breed guesses. So far, "Basic Black Dog" seems to be our best bet.
