Barking mad

Maybe your own tolerance of barking dogs is akin to other peoples to Passive smoking, both offenders assume their actions are localized, but in practice a large dog can pollute an area of fifty square yards with sound, a passive smoker just a few feet. Ok I know a barking dog is not in the main life threatening as is passive smoking, but.....Well anyway I'm sure you get the drift?

I will certainly agree with you that chronic barking is totally annoying. In any suburban/city setting it isn't even tolerated. If you have had a conversation with the owner regarding your complaint, and they have done nothing to correct the situation...then contacting authorities is the answer. It is really that simple. If you live in the country, then you must expect that sometimes sound will travel and you may hear a barking dog quite some distance away. My personal thoughts.......you live in the country, that's just how it is..no big deal. If you are someone extremely sensitive to noise, either by pets, people, children...then by all means choose to live in a more controlled environment, an adult community with strict rules regarding pet ownership. If you have questions or just need to vent, I think you will find this forum helpful. As stated, there are many wonderful people here. I think you could argue endlessly about mans inhumanity....or the sad truth that there are many irresponsible people in the world....that said, I wonder if you truly have concerns regarding a barking dog...or you are merely enjoying youself thinking you dazzle us all with your creative writing. I don't mean to sound harsh, but this is obviously a group that loves dogs....so what is it you want said that hasn't been said? I do welcome you, blutack, and look forward to hearing more about your pets.:)

I wish they had some Humane Society for Mother-in-laws. Her barking is quite annoying also. Although, at least she lives way down the road where I can't hear her constantly.

LMAO, sorry couldn't resist :p In all honestly, she's a lovely lady

Some definition of the problem would be useful. Is it middle of the night disturbances, periodic barking during the day or early morning? Constant, monotonous, droning barking all day and/or night? Frenzied barking when people are passing by? Is it one dog or several dogs?

Or is it just annoying you and you need a place to bark? ;)

May I suggest relocating her to a more suitable environment where she will get the proper stimulation so she is not so distructive to your household? Perhaps you are not providing the correct postive reinforcement when she leaves your property? ;) :D My solution was moving myself and husband to a new home where she could only visit every once and a while so she knew we still loved her but didn't have the time to devote to her any more.

Thank you for your thoughts and analysis, I read with interest still, but have to say, putting one’s faith in a conspiracy theory solution, or hidden agenda surrounding unanswered questions, may seem a little desperate to the casual observer.

But anyway, without going into too much detail, most of the sensible suggestions have been used with varying success, The local authority complaint solution has also been used but is less than useless and so easy to side step and therefore makes the law on noise nuisance unenforceable, against the persistent legal aided offender. (Unfortunately under UK law it really is not that simple) as local authorities have found to their cost when taking cases to court.

Not sure if I should feel patronized at the creative writer tag although it seems to suggest fiction, personally I would have preferred creative thinker, but never mind “Dazzle” is not a word to dismiss lightly, …maybe I shouldn’t read too much into it.

I am fully aware that you are a group that enjoys a chat and an exchange of positive comments regarding each others pets almost like a night at the Oscars. I have a somewhat different approach to being an animal lover and will continue to strive to engage in debate and ruffle a few feathers if necessary. Even in a fluffy bunny rabbit land such as yours there is merit in the controversial.

Will continue with further posts on the purchase of the correct K9, and will advise once the qualifying pet criteria is reached.

?? did i miss something here? i don't get the point of your post. What is the point..i have reread it twice now..and i still do not understand what it is you are trying to accomplish here. you asked for suggestions..suggestions were given..what debate? we all said yeah..barking dogs are a pain in the butt, what debate? a debate is when there are two sides that can argue the point..if no one is disagreeing with you then what is it you are trying to accomplish other than making rather strange posts? Who's feathers are you "trying" to rankle..not mine anyway..i will take a world of common sense and problem solving over people that like to argue when they have nothing or no one to argue with. That my friend, just becomes nothing but hot air. I guess you will have to do what everyone does when they cannot change a situation..learn that what cannot be cured..must be endured.
Buy some earplugs like the airport employees use..you won't hear a thing.

Guess you did, but please believe me when I say it’s not worth a single point rise in blood pressure; sometimes it takes people more time to focus and understand.

I take on board your suggestion of the earplugs but feel it might set a dangerous precedent for other nuisances in so far as undermining the policing of air quality and the like globally; Taking your idea further we could all purchase breathing apparatus and leave the world economies to pollute as they wish. (Might be a vote winner who knows)

Well, Smkie, we are clearly outsmarted. Earplugs = pollution. Who can argue that point? What ignorant fools we are! ;) O blutack, what a great deal we owe you for bringing to light our hideous flaws!!

It's interesting to me that you come to a friendly dog forum to "ruffle feathers". Wouldn't your vast intellect be better stimulated by a political or religious forum where no amount of arguing will accomplish anything worthwhile?

I'm sorry, but I really dislike aimless insults. And I may be wrong, but I'd bet the folks posting here don't appreciate bearing the brunt of your ego trip. As Smkie pointed out, you asked a question (albeit a rather rudely presented one) and suggestions were given. Are you here to be friendly and enjoy this lovely community that Chaz has set up? Or are you only here to b*tch to people who are too polite to ask you to sod off?

I apologize for the frankness. I just don't like seeing my friends abused.

I couldn't have said it better CT. Let's just leave him be and see if actually contributes anything worthwhile to the forum. He'll simply get bored and find another hopeless soul forum to 'shake' around. He must be a blast at parties! *snore* *snore*

Sorry blutack, but this forum has tried to be open and polite.

Note that we've yet to see the problem defined. Reasonably intelligent folks usually have a grasp of the concept that specific solutions require there to be specific parameters of the problem set out. The lack of information forthcoming on the actual problem leads to one of two conclusions: either one is not dealing with a person of reasonable intelligence, or one is dealing with a person who has no interest in a solution. In either case, it's a total waste of energy.

I have a barking dog myself!! Chloe, my Corgi is a majo barker. I have tried to teach her the "quiet" command, so far unsuccessfully. I don't let her stay out in the yard though when she is barking.

Last week I was off work for most of the week with the flu, and I was trying to sleep in a bit in the morning due to my not sleeping at night, and my neighbors dog and the other neighbors dogs were barking constantly. It drove me crazzzzy because I needed to sleep so bad. Oh well....it's a dogs life. :p

Colourful language, but clearly not the sharpest knife in the draw.

I rest my case.

Your response doesn't deserve credit..so it won't be except for one thing..i am proud that people really tried to be of help to you blutack, even when there seemed to be a problem..there was an attempt to keep things positive, and i am proud to know the caliber of participants on this forum. I agree with Creature Teacher, that i do not like my friends insulted, especially when they do so much good for so many. It takes all kinds to make a world, and thank god there are more people that are helpful in our fuzzy bunny world than people who waste time and serve no purpose at all. Yet get in life, what you give. What you gave, was nothing. So it will be you that loses in the long run. Such a pity.

Several years ago my daughters dog became a barker when she was outside after a older man moved into a house next door to us. She had never been a barker before other than the occassional barking at a snake, cat, raccoon, or snapping turtle. She insisted on barking at this neighbor. We'd make her come in but as soon as she was let out she ran to the fence barking. Odd thing was, as SOON as that man moved back to chicago the barking stopped. New neighbors moved in and she loved them. Never barked at them. She simply didnt like that first neighbor and he didnt like her, he admitted spraying water at her and lord knows what else he had done to her to make her hate him so much.
