As vile as the charges are, isn't he entitled to a trial before we start lighting torches and waving pitchforks?

Despite the overwhelming evidence (that has been supplied by the media) and the brutality of the crimes, Mr. Vick is innocent until PROVEN guilty by a jury. That's one of the beautiful things about this country. Then, if he is indeed found guilty, then make him pay for his actions.

Bingo! I think people are more concerned with seeing "someone" pay, and not necessarily the people actually responsible. Nobody is ranting about all the other people that are undoubtedly involved with this crime. Vick is in the public spotlight, so let's lynch him...:spam:
When.....oops I mean if ;) he's found guilty, then let the fun begin.

The TV news media is a powerful medium, but you gotta admit that it does look bad, especially since it's basically in his yard.

Its because he's a southern black sports star. He is being railroaded!

No I dont mean that, he does deserve a trial before we hand him his a$$.

I vote for the Falcons to bench him for the year, and then see what happens after the trial for a NFL suspension.

He's been terrible at running an offense, he wont be able to learn the new one they are using this year if he is going between court dates. His arraignment is on the first day of training camp!

The Falcons can sit him and make most people happy that way. The fans would come around to him not playing because he would be terrible, and the dog people can take heart that he is not playing. Win Win for everyone, except Vick.

That would even satisfy the dog fighting crowd.

I understand that Michael Vick will be looking for new property soon. Any of you want him as a neighbor?

In a court of law, certainly Vick is *innocent until proven guilty*.

    But I'm not a court.

And seeing how I don't live in Georgia, I'm not even part of any potential jury pool.

I don't owe Vick any presumption of innocence.

So I'm entirely comfortable in calling this one "Guilt By Association" if not outright guilty period, judging from what I've seen so far.

And in America, one doesn't need to be an adjudicated criminal to be fired from a job.

Why should he not be suspended just on the charges? Look at what they did to "Pacman" Jones. He's never been charged with anything, just questioned by police about 11 times on crimes that were committed by his "posse". They banned him for a year now. No charges, just guilt by association. I think the charges in the Vick case and the evidence is clearly enough to warrant a suspension.

    I agree Dan.

As for the petition, I don't know how much these online petition would hold up, they never usually work. I think it would be great to hit him where it hurts financially and show his sponsors that he's not a good representative to their product. Don't purchase any of Vick's products. That's if they haven't dropped him already.

Does anyone have a list of his sponsors?

NFL players have been given suspensions on these kinds of things because it damages the teams and the NFL's reputation (or at least thats the theory).

It's not really a should they ban him, it's become more of a "when will they ban him".
The NFL has had that policy for some time apparently stating that you have to maintain a certain level of good appearance in the face of the public so as not to give negative press to the teams and the league in general.
Well this particular story is everywhere with pictures of Vic playing and then shots of people digging at his house to find bodies, then pan to him thaking off his helmet and then more footage of his home being searched by police and animal control.
He'll be given a lifetime suspension... the court case and what not will determine just how long that lifetime suspension will be.

However as I understand it the methods used, indictment or whatever the word is, is seldom done at this level unless they are very sure they will win this case (being very public and all).

It's not a will or a should, it's a when and how long.

Just so. I suppose that crying "innocent until proven guilty" might allow one to occupy the higher moral ground and sneer at those of us uneducated fools carrying pitchforks and torches, but you'd have to have a pretty big pair of blinders not to believe that that Vick isn't neck-deep in this.

Just because someone is legally innocent doesn't mean that the rest of us need leave our common sense locked in a box.

That said, the league would have a hard time suspending him sans conviction, considering that the players union would be required to put up a serious fight, and I doubt the NFL wants that. About the only way Vick sits out this season is if he comes to an agreement with the Falcons ownership and takes a "leave of absence" with pay while this plays out.

Actually the last time one of the players was brought up on suspicion of anything the head of the NFL PA demanded that he be suspended, under pressure from other players who are tired of the league having a bad reputation for getting into trouble with the law and nothing being done about it.
The NFL is an autocracy not a democracy.

From what I've read and seen about this case....if it walks like a duck..

If he is guilty, he has no soul and really deserves the maximum penalty available. Piece of garbage......just disgusting.
