We have a smallish backyard, and I want to get some outside toys for Syd to play with this summer. I'm not so sure about a swingset, but what are some other fun outside toy ideas? Syd is 4 1/2 years old. Ideally these would be things that will last her a few years.

What do the kids in your life like?

How do you feel about tree houses? I was all about our tree house when I was a kid. My dad took some rope netting and made stairs and everything.

Or maybe a sandbox?

Or a rocking-horse-style outside toy (I don't know what else to call these...like a little bouncy animal she can ride)?

Clive's younger, so he's likely into different playthings. But I think we're getting him a sandbox this year.

A refrigerator box. :p

Seriously though, some kind of play house would be awesome. Especially with a little kitchen or something. When we had a house I wanted to install a water feature for my daughter. Not like a pond or anything. More like a pump that cycles a tiny trickling stream over and over some little river rock feature with a few ferns and stuff for dinosaurs to look cool in. We would have loved something like that as kids.

I think a sandbox is on the list of yes. I'd love a playhouse, but they are SOOO expensive!

No trees in our yard for a treehouse :(

We have a wagon, scooter, bicycle, a small plastic little play house, and this: http://http://www.walmart.com/ip/Little-Tikes-Endless-Adventures-Adjustable-Mountain-Climber/14668536
that we play with in out backyard. We also have a tiny yard. These things keep her occupied. I also hung a toddler/baby swing from the cover on the back porch.

This is our playhouse: http://www.walmart.com/ip/American-Plastic-Toys-Playhouse/13442784

It's pretty cheap.

Oh, and in the summer we do a blowup pool on the deck. She loves it!

Does she like the sand and water table? I was wondering if that would be more fun than a sandbox.

According to your ticker, our kids are very close in age. Hannah must be about a month older than Syd.

She loves it :). I got her some little construction vehicles and such to use with it and other goodies. She plays with it all the time :)

Hunter loves kiddie pools. Of course when weather permits for swimming but also we have filled them with leaves and hidden toys, filled them with blankets and pillows for outside story time complete with hot chocolate, they been filled with dirt and mud for mud pies and more Of course they are washed out throughly a lot. I've also been known to drag em in the house and let Hunter go to town cutting construction paper...makes clean up easier than chasing bits of scrap paper around lol. We also have a swing set and when we move and have more space a portion of the yard will be set up specifically for sensory play.

We got Devin a water table because I didn't want sand all over the patio and she loves that thing. I also bought her a bucket of some sand toys that she plays with in the water. She does love to go dig up dirt, so we may get her a sand box this year as well.

We also got a bounce house this year. It has been an awesome investment and has had much use already!

She also has a tricycle and a balance bike.

We are hoping to get a nice swingset with fort and slide in the next few years.

We are building a sandbox for Mason this year. I think that is one thing that can last them a long time, all the neighbor kids love to play in our neighbors ages range from 2-7

We also have a water table that gets quite a bit of use.

The other thing that gets the most use here would be 4-wheelers and go-carts....my hubby works on them and has somehow managed to collect quite a few....the kids love to sit on them and pretend they are going places.
