I finally got a video camera this year on our state's Tax Free Day, mainly to record dog and horse stuff (of course). I got a few courses recorded at our first trial of the year last week before I started to feel guilty for hitting people up to tape.

This was the first round of USDAA Steeplechase, one of the tournament classes that is a qualifier for Nationals. We did qualify in it (and also in the Performance Versatility Pairs that weekend), so we now have two of the five Qs we need to get fully qualified for Cynosport. While I don't expect to be competitive there, I am really hoping to go; possibly my only chance if they move back to the west coast next year, and a few very good friends are going as well.

Couple of points before I get picked on for them ;):

I am still trying to figure out how much I need to exercise her the day before a trial - that balance between not having her tire over the weekend, and not running a wild banshee on the first day. This was a banshee day! She was settled by this run (last of the day), but that is why I was babysitting the contact so much (she'd clearly blown it in an earlier run).

The refusal at the weaves the first time through was me being an idiot. I worry she doesn't truly understand her entries, and try too hard to set her up rather than just telling her to weave. Miss Responsive then ends up getting called off of them, because as soon as I say anything, she's trying to respond to me. Second time through the weaves I'd realized my mistake and just let her go.

We had a decent (not taped) second round the next day, and I was really happy to wind up 6th in a very competitive 30 dog class.

First. I am angry you went to All Dogs and didn't tell me!!! *angry face*

It kinda looks like the first time you are a little in her way (to set her up) and that you queue it a little late. But we've been outta it for awhile *sadface* and I'm a bit rusty LOL

Steeplechase is a particular class in agility.

We may be back at All Dogs, at least for one day, early in May. I need to look at the schedule for their USDAA trial that weekend and figure out if I can do the trip in one day (or at least keep it to one night in a motel).

I think if I had just cued the weaves once and let it be, she would have been fine. She looked on track to get the entry, but I got paranoid about lining them up correctly, and tried to over handle the whole thing. Which just pulled her off and into me . The big thing I learned that weekend is that I need to just shut up most of the time. We got called on another refusal in the second round of steeplechase, where there was a 180 between two jumps. I was so worried she wasn't going to come back in to me, I called her name (rather than just letting her follow me around the turn) and turned in to me so fast, she pretty much ran face first into the standard.

You may know them already, but Denise and Todd (they have a standard schnauzer, and 3 terrier mixes, she usually has a table vending collars) are awesome people to ask some questions. Tell them Mere sent you.

I came very close to buying one of their collar/leash combos! They (or at least one of them) did the team tournament with a woman trains in the same group as me.

Denise is awesome. And their martingales are lucky and will make you Q (or at least that's what she tells me to say).
