I have a baby brother and I was just wondering how good they are with kids.
Like any breed they should never be left alone with children. But ever Sibe I have ever met has been great with kids. Especially my old Sibe Sheba who had a special place in her heart for babies. Of course there should always be boundries because even if the dog is friendly doesent mean it won't playfuly nip. And it should be taken slow and calmly when introducing the dog to the baby.
Are you planning on getting an adult or a puppy?
Puppy. I already have two dogs and he's learned the basics of pet themm EASY and stuff like that.
Well then im sure you will be fine. Make sure you teach the puppy nipping, jumping, or pawing at the baby is not okay. But other then that yes im sure that they would get along great. If you check out some sites alot talk about how well behaved Huskies can be with children.
any dog can be good with kids. i gre up with a border collie, a BC/staffy and a boxer bullterrier.
the best 2 dogs we have at the moment for kids i would say sophie, the american bulldog mastiff and buster the little insane kelpie cattle dog. he lets me crawl all over him and hug him and push him around and play rough and he's so good. he can get pretty strong when your playing but as soon as i say "whoo" thats it. he just comes and sits on my lap. and he's good because he matches his play to the person. for years he wouldn't play rough with my little sister at all because she was just too little. lol
The dogs of Siberia who were created by the Chukchis were bred to be good with kids because on of their roles was to sleep with the women and children on cold nights to keep them warm. The children were always encouraged to play with the dogs too.
Siberian Huskies are descendants of these dogs and for the most part carry that trait. You have a few bad apples out there but those are usually a result of bad breeding OR the dog was never socialized with kids. In general though. these guys are awesome with kids and are very patient with them. Just the other day I had Ronan and OC playing with a little one year old who was tugging on their ears and pulling on their fur to stand up and crawling all over them. They took it all in stride but both were also socialized with kids right from puppies.
None the less though, NO dog should EVER be left alone with a baby or a child because accidents do happen. While I was visiting the baby I mentioned earlier I called OC to come down from the office and as he was jumping over the stooles that were laying down to stop the baby from crawling into the shop area, the baby''s mother called him over to her and he did this very awkward turn in mid air. He ended up accidently chesting the baby who fell back. He was uninjured but still let out a wail more out of surprise then anything else. Both dogs lept up and started licking the baby all over to make sure he was ok. This could have ended a lot worse had the baby hit his head on something, or if maybe OC chested him even harder causing him to fall back so hard he hits his head on the floor instead of just landing on his bum.
A well bred, properly trained Siberian should be great with kids. Here's a few photos of mine at public demos, all of these kids were strangers to the dogs:
my sister had one. and altho she was quite whimsical and friendly, she was too hyper and jumpy and rough to be with kids or the elderly. she didnt know her own strength or even when enough was enough. but give her some toys and the yard and she was fun to watch.
but then again my sister never trained her at all, nor did she act as teh 'alpha'
