Apparently I don't know how to take care of my dogs.

Some people just really pissed me off. Here's a little back story first. I bought Mina a new x-large kennel as she has outgrown her old one. Well within two weeks, the door wasn't working properly. The spring was coming out of it and it was a hassle to get to close properly.

Fast forward to today, I took it in to exchange it and I had an employee at Tractor Supply Company yelling at me for a good ten minutes about how I don't know how to care for my dogs. Why you ask? Because for the first two days in the new kennel Mina had chewed the corner a little bit. Apparently being in a kennel stresses her out and I just must keep her in their all day.

I calmly explained to the lady that she's only in there when I'm sleeping or at work, so she's virtually never in there especially since I'm only getting 6 hrs. a week at work at the moment. However, she kept going on and on about how I don't properly take care of my dog with me getting more and more pissed off all the time.

It ended with me telling her that if she thinks my dog is mistreated so badly she should go tell her that because she's right out in the car.

/endrant

ETA: She wasn't in the car alone, my boyfriend was waiting out there with her while I went in to exchange the kennel.

She WAS the manager. I'm going to look up the corporate number though and tell them about it. She had no REASON to treat me like that. She also said that Mina broke the spring in the door by chewing on the plastic base of the crate. And that she'll let me exchange it this time. To which I simply told her I was within my 90 day store guarantee so she had no choice.

Then she said, "she's just going to break the next one by chewing on it" I just said "well then I guess I'll exchange that one" Although I don't see how Mina broke the spring in the door by chewing on a corner of the plastic base. That may just be me though.

I agree you should have asked for the manager

and 6 hours a week is nothing although some people think that is torture and too much to ask

I know when we had Teddy I worked a full time job and OMG he tore stuff up and it was just not SAFE for him to be NOT in a crate when I worked. He had torn up entire couches and chairs and it was crazy.

EDIT: you responded before me. WTF yeah I would definitely call corporate. I HATE store employees that tell you what to think or how to feel or how to deal with your pets OR children for that matter. If they aren't disrupting the store... STFU and do your **** job

That's the same reason Mina has to be crated, she's a crazy chewer. If it weren't for that she could be out, but I'm too afraid of her chewing something up while I'm away and either choking on it or ending up with a blockage.

And I'm with you, I hate it. She got all pissy when I told her she can go out and tell my dog how mistreated she is if she likes.

ETA: Now that the ride home is over I have to laugh at myself because it had started freezing rain while we were out and on the ride home the roads were just a sheet of ice. Which wouldn't be so bad, but John's truck has a habit of fish tailing. The whole ride home all I could think is if we get in a wreck I'll be on the phone with 911 telling them to send an ambulance and a vet because I have my dog. :D

First rule of customer service. Don't harass customers. Silly person. How the heck did she get promoted to managing a store?

You were only there to exchange a dog crate, which should have been a short and impersonal business transaction. Unfortunately you ran into a wack job who did not have the right to yell at you for at least 10 minutes because she (apparently) didn't agree with your crating your dog at night and while you are at work for only 6 hours a week. She doesn't rightfully have the option to disagree, but she's a wack job.

Clearly you're doing this for your dog's safety, so you already know that is proper care for your dog. The dog currently doesn't know better not to chew things that could very well hurt her, so you have to know better for her ... to protect her from herself. :)

But this strange woman in Tractor Supply could only have found out because you told her that: You crate your dog while you work 6 hours a week, at night while you are sleeping, and that your dog was outside in the car with your boyfriend. You were there only to exchange a crate, which should have been a short and impersonal business transaction. I am not at ALL saying she was right to scream at you, certainly not! But you didn't owe that stranger in the store any specific explanations at all.

All you owed her in explanation was that a defective spring broke, and could she please exchange the crate. If she asked about a few little chew marks in the corner ... well, your dog may have chewed it a bit, but you are not returning it for that reason. You are returning it for a defective spring and are not asking for a cash refund but only an exchange ... so hopefully the next one won't have a defective spring that breaks prematurely.

(If by chance, she refused to exchange the crate unless you answered intrusive questions concerning how you care for your dog ... then right there you pull out your cell phone and ask for her district manager's name and the phone number of the district office. You would never have had to make the call ... because suddenly she would have approved the exchange without demanding specific answers to intrusive questions that she had no right to ask. )

Call the corporate headquarters on her. She had no right to yell at you for how you treat your dog. How would she possibly even know how you treat your dog when she never seen the dog in the first place.

About a month ago there was a Pet Supplies Plus store that opened and I was in their with Lola the store did not have to many customers so as we were walking around Lola spotted a display of white mice on the floor. She was sitting their looking at them from about 2 feet away when one of the stock people said that dogs are not allowed to look at the animals. That got me mad and I told him if a dog cannot look at the animals then why do you allow dogs in here and have the display for mice sitting right on the floor. In Pet Smart and Petco they do not tell anyone their dog can't look at the small animals.

When I arrived back home I called the owner of the store and they said the store employee was wrong for doing that and it was not a problem for dogs to be looking at the small animals. They also sent me a gift certificate. About a week later we went back and the mice were still on the floor just as they were before.
