I was wondering if anybody else here has a chinchilla or chinchillas? I have one, Balou, he is a 4 year old standard. He is in my siggy. I love them, they are awesome animals, though not for someone who wants a snuggle bunny, lol. I'm lucky if I can touch Balou twice in an hour, and he just tolerates being picked up, lol.

Anyways, I got Balou from here uschinchillas.com . His brother and him were rescues (the breeders also do a little rescue). They were living in a little bitty cage, and they were fighting each other. His brother was bigger so he got the worst of it. He has big chunks taken out of both of his ears, and was badly bitten. When I got him his name was Gillis, but I changed it to Balou.

Any other chin owners out there!?!?!

P.S. If you go to the site, look at the nursery, the kits are soo cute! When I picked Balou up, I got to hold a 2 day old! And my dream is to one day own a mosaic chin, they are gorgeous!

I used to have two, but I had to give them away when I moved to the US :( One was standard, the other one a black one (I forgot the name). I got both when they were 2 months, the black one originally until he escaped from his cage and from the house (the bars were much less than one inch apart, I still don't know how he did it). I was really sad so got the other one, then I found the little escape artist two houses away and ended up with two.

I was sad to have to give them away, but I have to admit I'm not a chinchilla nor a rodent person. I totally hate cleaning the cages, and I like pets that interact more with you. That, and sleeping with them in the room was a nightmare  I lost their pictures when I moved also, so I can't post them :(
