Hey, I'm new on here, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what kind of dog I may have. I found him about 7 months ago. He has more energy than I've ever seen in a dog, I am 5'2 and can hold a toy right above my head and he can jump and reach it, I think that he could also run around the back yard for hours if I didn't stop him. He's about 28 pounds right now, and comes up to about my knee. The vet said he's probably abou 2 years old. Any ideas??

I thought maybe JRT and Beagle, that's what I've been told by other people too, but I think he's too tall for that. so there's gotta be more in there. I'm hopefully going to be getting a blood breed analysis on him. So then there won't be any more guesses! ha. but anyone else got ideas?

When I worked for the animal shelter, we had a litter of puppies come in. A friend of mine adopted two of them and when they grew up they looked identical to yours. They were Shih Tzu/Beagle/Jack Russell mixes from what we were told.

I see Wire Fox Terrier in the coloring and face. Also in the stance...he has a VERY "Terrier" stance, esp in the rear. Wire coats are something that one or both parents has to exhibit or carry, I believe....to express so probably one parent was wirecoated itself. To my knowledge there is no wire coat gene in the current Beagle genepool.

I can totally see him being part Beagle. he has Beagle ears and coloring. Maybe shave down his face next time you go to the groomers and post pics... you'd be surprised what features all the fuzz covers!

I would point out that MANY terrier breeds carry tricolor with white being dominant...see the piccy I posted? Nearly the exact same pattern. I personally...see minimal Beagle in this dog.

He also jumps across, when he runs, he'll run as fast as he can, and then he'll just leap! as far as he can, and then he'll keep running, and then he'll leap again! it's very strange

i was also thinking maybe border collie, or something like it. His hair has gotten longer since I took the picture. mostly on his face and ears. He's very smart (doesn't have the stubborn mentality like my Westie!) and learned the name we gave him in about a week. He has also learned how to sit, lay down, come, and shake. And it only took him about a week each to learn those. That's why I thought maybe border collie...

I really can't think of anything that says "Border Collie" to me from looking at him though. Terriers are very smart dogs, just very independent. But if you've got one that is very biddable, that's great!

Me, too. My guess would be Wirehaired Fox Terrier/JRT. There is a "rough" coated variety of JRT. Think "Eddie" on Frasier. :)
You know, there might be a little Pwder Puff Chinese Crested in him, too. There's just something about his face, tail and the way his coat lays that reminds me of a friends PP Cresteds. I still think he has JRT and Wirehaired Fox Terrier in him, tho.
