another cop-shoots-dog story

it makes my heart leap into my throat when dogs charge invisible fence lines.

but it scares the hell out of me how fast so many cops are to pull their guns and start firing.

good reason to not allow your dog to fence-rush, whether he's ever bitten anybody or not.

Poor dog. Wish you had owners that you know, taught you a recall and supervised you when outside, and wish there were cops who were a little less quick to draw their guns.

Everyone in my neighborhood has electric fences because the HOA will not allow us to build physical fences. The dogs here are pretty good about not fence-rushing though.

ETA: Although, sometimes it seems even having a physical fence isn't enough these days. There was a case recently where a 10 year old boy climbed a six foot privacy fence to get a ball, and on the other side of that fence were four bullmastiffs. The boy was bitten quite a bit. Luckily he is recovering fine, and the law found in favor of the dog's owner since their dogs were secured, and the dogs were not killed. Most of the comments on the article were in favor of the owners too, but a few, like one that said "if I were that kid's parent the dogs would be poisoned and the owners sued." make me paranoid. It seems we can't do anything to protect our dogs anymore. :(
