I love Petie :D (sorry for the misspelling earlier)

I'm all about efficiency because my dogs do not have the ground speed/accel of the BCs we run against quite often. But they leave hairs on the uprights and it's amazing how we consistently place in the top 5 when running in classes of 30, 40, 50 dogs...and having a blast. Would love to be able to work with a top trainer more often but so far my obsessive personality has been helpful lol

Are you trialing much these days? We need new vids :)

Have a couple things to add, first regarding the dogs creeping into the 2o2o position. What I tend to see in that regard is confident, drivey dogs that are slowing in anticipation almost like they get stuck in a vacuum. These are the same dogs that sit or down slowly when in a highly stimulating situation. I'm battling this right now with Zuma (first appeared yesterday) and let me tell you, it is not out of lack of confidence or lack of understanding. To combat it, I'm throwing a lot of early releases at her and straight exits.

Second, yes if you know running contacts it is very easy to tell that Susan Garrett's dogs in those videos posted by Dekka were trained in a stopped contact. They decelerate on the down ramp rather than accelerate.

As far as our training progress: working on accel/decel cues with Zuma as well as tightening up her jumping (Cik/cap anyone?!). Proofing the weaves as well. Classic is still working on being ok to run with strangers in the ring and now that he's back on his meds, I'm hoping to see some more progress with a tweaked training plan.

Woohoo, day 3 of running contact training was pretty good today!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGQEFzGXNVU&feature=youtu.be

There are some bad throws in there on my part, and she slowed down a bit near the end. You can't blame her though, I was throwing her toy really far into deep snow, she got a good workout. :)

She's getting the idea now, and had a few moments of brilliance. I can't wait to be able to run on grass!

I have been training a wrap as well, it's so cute and fun! We work on it around a tree and we've used a jump wing once so far. I'm training it more in a SG style though, with only one command meaning wrap the wing, and the direction of the wrap comes from my body cue.

The stranger thing has me a wee bit worried because Panzer is not a fan of strange people at all. I'm going to start a foundations class in March, will be really good for her.

I tend to not see as much problem with drivey dogs with this even if they are worried about people because they are so focused on their work. However, great danes arn't necessarily known for their drive, even though Classic has more than a typical dane he is never committed to work as a malinois would be.

Take your time with your training and do a lot of focus work and you shouldn't have very many problems!

I agree with this. As long as the dog is driven enough, by time you're trialing they don't tend to notice the "scenery" so much.

I didn't even know SG did Cik/Cap. How does her method differ from ST's? ST says she uses two cues because she can but it's not really a requirement of teaching the behavior.

I'm curious, because I haven't done a ton of reading on this method of running contacts or seen it done. Do you mark the 'jumps' in any way? It looks like the toy is thrown as she's running, so I'm wondering what the distinction is for the dog between running to the end or not.

SG teaches a "Check" cue that means wrap the jump collected, and an "Up" cue that means take the jump extended and keep on going. It's in her Success With One Jump DVD.

Did you see our Day 3 RC vid?

Right now there is no distinction. At this point it's pretty much just teaching the dog to run fast and building value for running on the board.

I'm training based on Silvia Trkman's method.... http://silvia.trkman.net/cone.htm

The thing that I love about her is that everything really is just a game. So, she doesn't worry about rewarding the dog for jumps at this point, it's all about keeping it fun for the dog. :)

Oh ok - never saw that one!

I missed it some how but just watched it. Looking much better for sure! I can't wait to see how she progresses through it :)

Yep she's very into speed and having fun with the dog. Have you ever read any interviews with her? Or even much of her blog? I love her casual attitude about competing.

I've read a fair bit of her stuff; just never paid much attention to the RC stuff since I don't train it myself. I do like a lot of her training.

Go Savvy, go!! He's so happy!
He's perpetually happy LOL Always having a good time :)

What a cutie! How old is Savvy?
He'll be a year old in a bit more than a month. This is a puppy/young dog foundation oriented class. We do tunnels, chute, DW games/work, teeter games, table, tire, recalls, handling on the flat and stays with a bit of sequencing (two obstacles like this).

Looks fabulous!!
Thanks! We're having a lot of fun. :)

Sooooooo have you started your conditoning and sprint/running training yet? Your going to need it, to keep up :)
Heheheh. I'm actually pretty quick when not in bulky winter boots in snow. But yeah, I'll definitely need to up my training come spring. :D
