i was wrong on the date the spay day was on! it was actually today and i decided to suck up my gut and let them neuter Ruckus.
well i just went to pick him up. the animal shelter closes at five so all the spay/neuter animals have to leave.
omg...
omg
they sent Ruckus home with me and his eyes were rolled up in his head... his tongue sticking out, and he cant even walk yet.
:(

he is in his crate now. i feel sooo sad for him.

Poor little guy!

I got Trixie spayed last month, she got sent home the same way..Her tongue sticking out, couldn't walk, she was peeing and didn't even know it...A couple days later she was back to herself!!!...And now shes all better and doing great!!

Don't worry I am sure Ruckus will be all better and running around in no time. :D

oh that poor boy, give him hugs and loves from my group and I...geesh, how late in the day did they neuter him? ....seems very irresponsible for the shelter to have sent him home in that condition. Is there some way you can complain?

They look pretty bad before they come down off of the meds.

I always go into surgery with all of my dogs and bring them home with me to recover as soon as the Vet is sure that it's safe to do so.

I'd just jot down the closest clinic number so that you have it on hand should you need to call but I really think he'll be just fine. The upside is that he's waking up with you where he feels the most safe and comforted....:)

Keep us posted...and kisses to Ruckus!

Oh wow. My dogs were always really wonky when they came out of surgery, Ripley especially since he is so tiny . . . But it sounds like he was still knocked out when you got him?

thanks everyone
i just caught him licking his sergical sight
You might want to put a shirt or something on him to stop him from licking his stitches. Did they give you any bitter stuff to put outside the border of his incision? Are you able to watch him so that you can redirect him if he tries to lick? If not, you may need to get him a cone or at least the bitter spray and a shirt.

Bear came home when he was neutered like that too. We put a blanket on the floor by the door we brought him in so he could just crash right there. He layed there for 3 hours a slept and the whole time I was freaking out. I even cried and felt sorry that I'm the one who did it. But he snapped out of it after his nap and he was back to normal. Did he come home with a lampshade on too??

poor little Ruckus. :(

A t-shirt would help with the licking, but if it doesn't you may have go go with the e-collar (the cone-type, not the shock collar :yikes: )

It might be a good idea to get an e collar just in case. Bear came home with one but he had so much trouble walking with it that we took it off during the day when he was carefully watched. We put it back on him at night so he wouldn't lick.

Poor baby and poor you . That is why I go the vet way ...... early morning spay and neutering , so they can be monitored when alert . But ... must say this.... I went to check out EliN's Hunter for her for adoption at the HS the day he was neutered .... they wouldn't even let me see him until the next day ! I feel they rushed Ruckus through ... He'll be fine , but I think they should have been cautious . If you were late bringing him in , they should have rescheduled . If you forgot the date and knew they closed at 5 , I would have rescheduled . Sounds like you got him in about 4 pm . Don't fret ... live and learn !
