I totally agree, it is very lucky that not all pit bull people feel the need to only buy papered apbt and it's very lucky they're not all held to the same body type ideal since they vary so much.
Well alrighty DRAMA! My comment said nothing about breeder vs rescue. I have seen plenty of purebred dogs come from rescues and shelters. In fact, my Border Collie, Miniature Pinscher, Jack Russell Terrier; as well as, several foster dogs have been as purebred as any dog from a breeder. I have fostered many JRT, TMT, Chi, and Mals that all met breed standard perfectly.
I was stating the fact that not everything that is called, labeled, and even registered as an APBT is actually an APBT. There are a lot of AmBull, AmStaffs, Boxer mixes, Lab mixes, etc. that are considered APBT. Fortunatey, a lot of people that believe they have a real APBT do not. Since they would not be able to handle the drive and intensity that comes with most of them.
I am really not sure what all of your snide comments have to do with the topic of this thread.

I would just like to point out that purebred is in no way the same thing as well bred. I have seen many a purebred JRT that is a conformational mess and structurally couldn't work.

That is how most of the shorties I see are. The poor little guys' legs were put on completely wrong. They almost look like they have dwarfism.
I know plenty of people that feel that if they pay to get a dog from a breeder, the dog will be "well bred". Unfortunately, not many ""breeders breed for functional conformation anymore or even do basic health testing.

So, all short legged breeds have dwarfism? I always thought they were created through selective breeding.
Yes, by selecting for the genetic condition of chondrodysplasia. Just like how Pugs were selected for Hemivertebrae affecting only the tail to get the tight curls. They might not have known that's what it was then, but that's what causes it.

All of mine are about at the weight I like them to be:

Boone is in excellent shape. Exactly what I like.

Raja is kind of hard to see through her coat, but I keep her thin. She has a tad bit of extra fat on her ribs since she's not one of my working dogs.

Tempie has so much loose skin that most pictures make her look fat. But she's actually in decent shape. After she got poisoned, it was a good while before I could keep weight on her. Now all she needs is a little more muscle, and she'll be back to where I want her.

Ummm, I know Nolu posted a thread when I first got broken into, which is a small part of what all she has been through in her life. And I think I summed most of it up on here at some point. But for now, this is the closest I've got for you.

If you want to know more about it, just pm me. For such a sweet girl, she has had some rotten luck.

ETA:
This may give you a bit more of the story. (At least, as much of it as I knew at the time. Some of the details were later discovered to be incorrect.)
