Yes indeed! Actually, the only reason we started going there was because my mom is German and she was thrilled that there was an Aldi down the street. We only had ONE Aldi in town when we first moved here, and now there are...a lot lol.
Really? Thats so odd. I didn't know they have Aldi in the US. :rofl1:

Gyp, don't you usually stay on the east coast when you visit? There aren't any, that I am aware of anyone, on the east coast. I never heard of it until I moved here.

Please tell me your Aldi looks like this:

Because if they do... why the heck are there German supermarkets in the US? :rofl1:

And yes, Aldi is awesome.
There are several around here in the more major shopping areas. They are too far for us to go grocery shopping really but I've heard they are pretty awesome. My grandparents go and get us a lot of breads and stuff because it is so cheap.

Google says there's a ton - even like 7 in Rhode Island. I guess they must have poppped up after we left in 2005. The last time I visited that far north was like 3 years ago - I guess they weren't up then, or they just werent on my common routes.

I'd love to see the inside of one though. US Supermarkets are always sooo nice (besides maybe foodlion, the one I went to in VA was sketchy) and Aldi here is usually pretty meh. I mean the have great products, even their electronics, but they just don't look as nice. Most supermarkets here don't look as nice as American ones.

Yeah there is like 20 within a 60 mile radius of me. I'd say the first one I saw pop up was in 2010 or so. Since then more have opened.

I'd be willing to bet they look the same inside, but I'll take a picture next time I go lol.

They save money by not having shelving (just stacks of boxes on pallets), dim lighting, etc - so they don't look fantastic inside, but that's one reason why food is so cheap. Fine by me!

We have a large-ish Aldi here, they built a new larger one kitty-corner to the Wal-Mart (trying to go directly after their customers maybe?) and vacated the old smaller one. It is definitely not a fancy grocery store so to speak, but the prices are pretty low, especially if you're buying processed, packaged food (I don't.) The produce prices are close to our other grocery stores. I went in there to price out nuts and dried fruit, and Sam's Club turned out to be WAY cheaper.

They're all up and down the place here. I've never shopped there though. Now I'm curious. :p

I love Aldi and shop there whenever I can to get anything we need that we can get there first and then get the remainder of what we need at another local grocery store.

Never heard of Aldi before this thread...I wonder if there are some in the German towns?

I just looked it up, and in 2011 50 of them opened in the metro NY area. It looks like there's only one on the island, and it's not close enough to be practical or economical to shop at, but it looks like more are on the way.

Upon further research, apparently there's one right in my town. I don't know why I've never seen it...It's supposed to be in the plaza by the mall...it must be tiny and probably doesn't even advertise as a grocer. I'm going to try to go over there this weekend and check it out. I will report back with my findings.

ALDI! Yes! When I get homesick, I can go to Aldi and find something that I only get in Germany otherwise. Besides, the layout of the store is exactly the way it is in Aldis in Germany.

They have German bread and German candy (a knockoff of duplo, yogurette, and kinderriegel. They also have THE Aldi chocolate).

For Easter, they have good German chocolate stuff, for Christmas they have popular German cookies. And they have other seasonal German stuff.

There was one in the NoVa area (Woodbridge), there were a few in KC and there are Aldis here in Indy as well.

Aldi is amazing. It is the reason that I am able to eat so healthy, everything is at least a dollar cheaper than at the grocery store!

At Aldi I can get a pack of blackberries for 99 cents! I pay at LEAST $2 for the same at any other grocery here. 5 kiwi fruits for $1.99, yes please! And this isn't a rural Aldi, either.
I LOVE Aldi! Especially for fresh fruits and stuff. Yum.

.... are we talking about the same Aldi? We have them all over, but I've never been impressed with the quality of their goods. Most of ours seem to be in lower income areas (which is not a bad thing) but their best prices are on packaged foods... which I don't eat at all. *shrug*

So, we had bacon and eggs for dinner and the eggs I got on sale last night were actually pretty good. Not as good as our own eggs, but definitely edible.

The Aldi here can be a little hit or miss on produce, but for the most part it's pretty good. They had pomegranates for 79 cents yesterday, but they were all dried out and not worth it. All the other produce looked very good, though.

I am an egg eater. I don't know why but I really like brown ones. Experts say that there is no difference in the nutrient content of white and brown eggs but every time I buy eggs, I would get the brown ones.

I think it just depends on your area, because that is the same experience I have had with mine. But I think in other places where food prices are higher it's a bit different. I do like Aldi because when they have sales on produce or meat it's a great deal, but overall, it's not significantly cheaper.
Unless you eat processed and packaged foods, haha.

Jules -REALLY? They should have had those years ago. I love their knock-off chocolate. :rofl1:

Aldi is a hit or miss here as well. You have to come in when they just re-stocked their vegetables or they aren't that since. They even have organic veggies here as well as other foods (their own organic brand though. Pretty much every supermarket has their own organic brand here by now though). I don't do my all my groceries there, but it's great if 1) you're low on money and 2) If you need canned goods and such. I don't eat really made meals. Though I do buy some things like tomatoe puree and corn canned for when we have nothing left. :p
