I really like your passion, well said. I wish there was some sort of license these days that you had to have before purchasing a dog or even a pet for that matter. It's such a shame, I was speaking to the pound/rescue yesterday to see about buying a dog & they were saying to me that they have alot of dogs being handed in to them in January. My only thought was, Christmas presents gone wrong! :( - I think there should be some sort of licensing system - not sure how, what, why or when but it needs to be thought of!

I agree. I don't think it should be a right in this world to own a pet but something you should have to qualify for.

Good Topic. Owning ANY type of animal is a huge commintment. Not just the time, but you also have to have the money. They need Food, Vet. Care, Shelter, Toys, Grooming, ect. They are just like another family member.

Couldnt agree more with you! very well said

whenever anyone comes to me looking for a boxer, they are always given this to read through first, but i suppose it can go for all pets too

Many Boxers end up in rescues because their owners had done no, or very little research into the breed and just dont realise the amount of energy and attention boxers need.

Every boxer in rescue should have been assessed to determine the type of home the dog will need.
It's important to choose a boxer that will match your particular lifestyle.
Though no dog should be left for more than a few hours, an older dog might be slightly more tolerant. Young dogs usually require more attention and a puppy will need constant attention for feeding, toileting and training throughout the day.

Before deciding a boxer is for you, please ask yourself the following..
  • Can you Give a boxer a good home?
  • Can you afford to feed it correctly?
  • Can you afford Vets fees or Insurance?
  • Are you prepared to Exercise EVERY day and train it?
  • Can you give plenty of affection and attention (boxers thrive on human companionship)
  • Do you know how much time this will take every day?
  • Boxers are prone to seperation anxiety especially if they have been in kennels so will there be someone home most of the day to keep him/her company?
  • Are you prepared to work through any problems he/she may have?
  • do you have the patience to allow a dog to settle into your home - your new rescue dog may have accidents or need toilet training.
  • Will your house accomodate a Boxer and allow space of his own - including a garden?
  • Are you prepared to take care of your boxer for up to 13 years or more, no matter what happens?

If you can HONESTLY answer yes to all of these things then go ahead and get your boxer!
There are few joys greater than the companionship and affection of a boxer.
I hope UK Boxer Dogs will encourage you to choose your boxer wisely, treat it well and enjoy it to the full.

An Idea

Just to contribute to the line of thought, I would like to share a sentence that I red somewhere: “there is no better psychologist than a pup licking your face!!!”

What I nice thought, don’t you agree??
