Okay, okay, not mine. But I'm ridiculously excited to meet the little guy. "Goldendoodles" have to be my mixed-breed guilty pleasure.

But the back story is funny.

My grandma lost her Lab 2 years ago who she was REALLY close to. She still misses her greatly. A few months later, they adopted a Foxhound from the shelter, who quickly became her husband's dog.

She had been talking of getting another, but wasn't sure she was ready, etc... well now her 17 year old cat died a few weeks ago, and he was "her" last animal, since Addie the Foxhound is literally like 100% her husband's dog, lol. So she is really missing having an animal of her own.

My uncle decided to surprise her with a Goldendoodle puppy for Mother's Day.

Oh I had to bite my tongue on Mother's Day though LOL, I just wanted to laugh at my uncle:

"Oh yeah the puppy comes from champion parents, that's why he's coming from Missouri, was $2500, comes with a health guarantee. You know, they're so good they told me they've never had a dog come up with any problems but they like to do a year guarantee anyway! Isn't that GREAT?! He's going to most likely already be housebroken" and he's going on and on, LOL... Champion Goldendoodles? I didn't know there was such a thing. I asked how he found them and he was like "ya know, I just googled goldendoodles in Maryland and it was the first site that came up!"

BUT, oh well, it's done and my grandma was crying, she was so happy and my uncle feels good about his Mother's Day present AND I get to play with PUPPY <3

He is flying in on Saturday and they're picking him from the airport.

    My brother has a Goldendoodle.
He actually came from a pretty good breeder (well, as good as people breeding mixed breeds get I guess) . Hes a really awesome dog. But has ALOT of quirks. Hes very high energy and ALOT of dog. But I like him a lot :)

Glad your grandma has a new little buddy, and one for you as well :)

I'm happy for your grandma. I'd love to see a pic when the pup comes.

    I can't wait to see a picture! :D

Goldendoodles are the new "Labrador" in terms of popularity around here. And after having seen a TON of pups come through our veterinary clinic, I can say there are some awesome 'Doodles, and then some not awesome 'Doodles. I can also say there are some breeders doing a very good job and breeding very well balanced, consistent dogs (in both looks and temperaments), and others that are just like your typical BYB. The dogs from the latter are all spazzes with anxiety/submission issues, just like a BYB Golden. They are no fun. But the good ones are great. ^^

I think goldendoodles are getting to the point where you can find decent breeders with decent dogs. But there are still probably more byb/mill ones out there. The few I've met were all A LOT of dog to handle, but they were all of the puppy store variety.

He'll certainly be a cute fuzz-ball of a puppy. Good luck with him! I'm not sure how active your Grandma is, but she'll probably appreciate the help of having someone else also exercising him. :)

I'm going with them to the airport on Saturday. :D

SO exciting. Can't wait to meet him. I'll post pics asap.

Yes, my grandma is fairly active, she's definitely going to be kept on her toes with this little man, I'm sure.

Goldendoodles are freakin' awesome, I don't care what people say. My mom wants one pretty bad.

Foster could be a pain, but he was a very neat dog.... I've always said he'd have been PERFECT for smaller kids!!

Does anyone know of any goldendoodle breeders off hand that are considered reputable?

Ya know, let's just say... down the road one day, I decide I want one or something... after falling in love with this little guy (maybe? lol)... :p

To be honest, I've always loved Goldens and wanted another, but their size and shedding is what turned me off. If I could get a smaller one, and possibly a dog that sheds less (if the dog ended up shedding, it wouldn't be a big deal, I'd be prepared) and I know some are HUGE but I think when the toy poodles are added into the mix, it's a higher chance of a bit smaller-ish size?

This is purely me googling tonight and being like OMGZ at all these pictures of Goldendoodles. Won't happen for a LONG time. I saw a few breeders that looked good to me, as far as mixed breeds go, but am unsure just by browsing a few sites. I'd never purchase a puppy from a mill-like place. But i've seen a few that seem like good families, country-type homes, only breeding Goldendoodles.

I had to google Golden Doodles. I wasn't sure what they would look like. Oh my gosh are they ever adorable. I would totally not be opposed to one. I was like I wonder if they come in other sizes like Miniature...then I thought of Cockapoos and darn they are cute too! I wish I hadn't come onto this thread because now you've given me two new dog 'breeds' to lust after! Lol.

Do their temperaments and coat type vary alot between lines? I would be curious to see if there are reputable breeders out there, too.

    EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP Doodlebaby!!!

I see a ton of them at work. Most have very high maintenance coats, so get your grandma a slicker brush and (if you're willing) help her teach some grooming manners. If she wants that floofy doodle look, it takes some work! :)

Most we see at work are mentally sound and generally nice dogs. We have two from a breeder down state that health tests, seems to know their lines, and places the puppies carefully, and they're both really nice dogs who are great with their families.

I generally like them! Most are nice, goofy dogs and very sweet. I'm sure she's gonna love hers. I can't wait for pics, they're such cute little mop puppies!
