I was on another forum and there was a person who has a dog who she believes is pregnant. The dog was originally her brother's but he was beating her so she took the pup from him. Now the dogs belly is huge and and her teets are also so she is assuming she will give birth soon and she is only six months old! She has spoken to the vet a couple of times and has a appointment scheduled for Friday. She is afraid she will have the pups before the appointment though. The pup is a husky or husky mix. She needs any advice you can give her, I have never has a dog give birth so I can not be much help to her. She talked to the vet about spaying now but the vet says she is too far along. she will get the mother fixed after the pups are weaned and all the puppies will also be fixed before they go into their new homes. If she can not find homes for all of them then she will keep them. So any advice would be appreciated. The dog has started nesting behavior. The owner is hoping that it is a false pregnancy but is not sure if it is and would like to be prepared if it is not. Thanks!

Have her car ready, have some towels ready, (just in case mom needs help drying her pups, if there are some) umm, have the vet number ready, um, have a comfortable place for whelping. This is all I know. But, there will be more. When more experienced people, that breed their dogs come one, I wish her luck!

I hope for all involved it's a false pregnancy . If real , she should feel the pups moving at this time . Go to the stickies here for more advice .

she held the pup down and felt the puppies moving inside. She is nesting, whining and has stopped eating, I'm thinking within 24 hours she'll have pups, how about you guys?

she has not got back to me yet. How many pups do you think she can expect from a purebred husky puppy? she says that she has done research that shows they have 4-6, but being so young do you think she will have that many. me, I'm praying for two but I doubt she'll have that few.

and also what should she have in the birthing kit (and please tell me what every item is for unless it's really obvious, like a rectal thermometer) oh and what is the normal temp. for a dog and will the temp. drop before she gives birth or does it rise (sorry I know very little about birthing). thanks!

Yes, the stickies have tons of info!

I'm wishing the best for this poor dog and her pups. She's still a puppy herself. :(

Take her to vets' asap. They will see her sooner if you explain current situation. While she may be young, it is very, very unlikely that she's just 6 months of age. That would mean she became pregnant at 16 weeks of age. The vet really should check her out, her current physical condition and her actual age, before Fiday! Good luck!

she has not gotten back to me all day, I'm worried Shorty may have started giving birth, I hope all goes well and she is prepared. If the dog does not get to the vet before she gives birth, they will all go after. She is just going by the age her brother told her, he got her first but was beating her. When the person who has her now got her, she was already pregnant. Thanks for all your help!

She took Shorty to the vet yesterday and there are 7 pups. One was not moving so he was either dead or sleeping. She found out more info on the dogs age and she is actually 8 months. The vet said she is in false labor which is normal for puppies when they are pregnant so young. I told her about puppy food and calcium (should it be a pill or should she grind egg shells or put bone in). I was also wondering what brand of food to suggest, I know what most of the good foods are but I don't know which ones come in puppy food. I also asked what breed the dogs are mixed with (if she knows) and if anyone is interested in a Husky mix I'm sure she would be willing to talk to you or interview you to see if you are right for one of her pups. I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks for your help!

*sigh* that is a BIG relief! :) Thanks for the update Max!

Hope all goes well!

also, on the food, since she is a large breed, you could just do Innova Large Breed Puppy.

At least she has time to get better prepared ..... You might suggest getting " How To Raise A Puppy You Can Live With " ( Rutherford and Neil ) to her ...a waelth of information . Through Amazon she'll get it cheap and in a couple of days.
