My belief is, it's NONE of YOUR business what someone else wishes to do with their body.

People are incredibly selfish, and for some reason like to blame other people for that.

So you are trying to get pregnant and are not succeeding?
That does NOT give you the right to want to create laws against people who get pregnant and want to terminate. It's not THEIR fault YOU can't get pregnant, so don't take it out on them.

So someone dumped a baby in a dumpster, a baby you would have given almost everything to adopt?
That does NOT give you the right to condemn that person because they didn't think of the possible desires of others.

It's like an extreme form of jealousy! Someone else has something you want, or didn't want something you want but can't have... so you get upset and want laws to be passed to prevent it from happening again? Seriously?
I could be off here but I don't think that M&M is anti-abortion/pro-life/anti-choice/anti-woman's rights (thought I'd get them all in there ;) ) because she had trouble conceiving and some deep seeded jealously, just that these issues were frustrating because she know how precious a baby can be.

For example, not to compare babies and dogs, but my lab has a displastic elbow and will never be completely sound. He has never been able to go on long hikes and do many of the things that most dog owners take for granted. I admit that when I see someone with a fat but otherwise sound lab wasting away it really, really frustrates me. Not because I want their dog or am jealous-if I wanted another lab there are plenty out there-but because they are taking for granted in their dog something that I badly wish mine could experience.

I for one am amazed that this has stayed civil. And on a subject as touchy as this. It's like magic. :p

Anyways, I'm pro-choice. If I was pro-abortion than I would be out looking for pregnant women and encouraging them to abort, or maybe just waiting for the conversation to come up so I can talk some women into abortion. I would never do that. Why? Because it's none of my business what other women do. I support their freedom to take the time to work it out and make the choice for themselves. If they choose abortion than so be it, but that doesn't mean I encourage it. If they decide to keep the baby then so be it. I respect the decision because she (and her SO and doctor) have made the choice and they should have the right to do that.

If one is pro-life (anti-abortion, pro-legislation, etc.) then that's just dandy, but it doesn't make what other women decide in regard to their pregnancy any of their business.

Also, a note on the whole 'pro-abortionist' term, by that logic a pro-lifer could also be referred to as 'anti-woman's rights.' I don't believe that pro-lifers are specifically campaigning to reduce women's rights, just as us pro-choicers are not specifically campaigning for everyone to go out and have abortions. Pro-lifers are concerned with every babies' rights to life and pro-choicers are concerned about women's rights to choose what to do with their body. Please don't refer to any of us pro-choicers as pro-abortion as it is inaccurate, just as it would be if all us pro-choicers called all the pro-lifers anti-women's rights. :)
This.

I'm a pro choice. One of my friends is one of the leaders in anti abortion and we clash on this all the time.

I just find it incredibly wrong that someone who is not in my theoretical situation or people who will never, ever, ever be in my theoretical situation *men* should be able to take away a choice that will drastically affect me either way and in no way will it affect them if I go one way or another. I consider that to be the epitome of extreme selfishness.

I consider myself pro mother's life and anti abortion people to be pro baby's life *if you consider a small mass of cells a baby which I do not*

I don't think I could abort but I know that I am not capable enough take care of a child. I would have to give it up for adoption. And I know that every day for the rest of my life I'd wonder if I should have aborted.

I didn't mean my entire post to be directed at her... just the responses to quoted parts. Everything before that was just my personal take on examples that had been brought up :)

Perhaps "jealousy" is not the right word for it then.. You said it perfectly in your last sentence - Those people are taking for granted something that you can't achieve (or your dog, in your example).

And I am soooo anti-swim suit shopping! Perhaps we need to organize a protest? lol

I do, however, have problems undertanding one's position when he/she says "I'm against abortion, but pro-choice", and so I just wanted to point out that when abortion is regarded & the "choice" is to abort, these two positions are direct opposite and one can't be both! You are either against abortion (pro-life, anti-abortion), or for abortion (pro-abortion).
I consider myself against abortion, but I am pro-choice.

For example:
A woman gets pregnant (not including rape) but does not want to be a mother/will be a terrible mother/does not have the means to be a mother/etc., I would not support her decision to abort because I think she should be responsible for her actions, but I am not going to stop her from getting an abortion because it's her CHOICE, and honestly, if she has no desire to be a mother, or can not give the love, support, dedication, means to raise her child then maybe an abortion is the right CHOICE for her and the baby. I still think the act of aborting is wrong, but it's not MY life and it's not MY baby, so it's not MY choice and SHOULD NOT be MY choice. It's hers and hers alone.

I guess the thing that bothers me about that argument, is babies are minimized to "possessions". They're not something that can be euthanized when convenient obviously, unless they haven't taken that first breath yet.

Abortions bother me, really really badly. I really hate them, but understand that there are extenuating circumstances and serious medical need. I mean, if there's an ectopic pregnancy and it's not terminated the mother will die anyway, which means the pregnancy won't be carried to term anyway, so it's not even a question in that case.

It does really bother me when people use it as birth control, esp. on a regular basis. And in that case it is about the health of both parties (mom and baby) as performing an abortion carries tremendous health risks for the woman as well. Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be medically better for mom to carry a few more weeks until the kid could be safely born Cesarian, as she wouldn't be ingesting all that toxic crap and hemorrhaging with dead tissue leaking out of her, etc.

Some vets won't perform convenience abortions on bitches because the risk to the bitch is so high. I also find it interesting, and terribly sad, that vets are required to anesthetize puppies in utero before aborting so they don't feel it, but doctors are not required to anesthetize babies in utero when performing the same procedure. eww.

How does my argument minimize babies to possessions? I also think convenience abortions are wrong, regardless of the age of the fetus. I don't want them to choose abortion, but I also don't want a law or someone preventing them from having one if they feel its the right choice for them and the baby.

I'm pro-choice/pro-abortion, whatever you want to call it. I am adopted and found out that my biological mother had considered abortion. Had she chosen that route I wouldn't be here today, obviously. Ever after finding that out I'm still pro-choice. Who are we to tell some one what they can and can't do with their bodies. If abortion isn't right for you then don't do it. I certainly don't think that the government needs to passing legislation about what people can and can't do with their bodies.

Because it's just terminology. I don't necessarily have any problems with people calling themselves pro-choice. I do, however, have problems undertanding one's position when he/she says "I'm against abortion, but pro-choice", and so I just wanted to point out that when abortion is regarded & the "choice" is to abort, these two positions are direct opposite and one can't be both! that is NOT true... would I have an abortion probably not, do I want other people to have abortions NO I DO NOT, but I am for the woman's right to choose, so no I am NOT pro-abortion and I resent being called that... because there is a difference whether you want to see it or not...

Throw me on the "anti swim suit shopping" band wagon.

My best friend and I are going swim suit shopping in a couple of weeks and I am dreading it with every muscle in my body.
I think I'm going to get some male swim trunks and a tank top to match. Yea that'll be my swim suit for the season.

Do you have a source for that?
Does my uncle count? He's an OB/GYN. In 10th grade biology, I did a project on abortion (nearly got me expelled from school). I sat down with him and discussed how exactly an abortion is performed. Of course, the actual procedure will differ slightly depending on the gestational age of the fetus, but what I typed is the gist of it.

I don't think anyone really wants to hear about how late-term abortions are handled.......

If I were to kill puppies by using a scalpel to slice an opening at the back of the head beneath the skull, insert a vacuum to suck the brain matter how, and then slice the legs off, I'd be put in jail faster than I could lay the scalpel down. Yet this is exactly how an abortion is performed.

It's sad that we offer lowly animals a pain-free death, but refuse to even consider the same for a fetus because that would be admitting there's a problem with abortions, and that would be a blow to the pro-choice side.
Do you have a source for that?
