Is it ever too late to try crating?

Agreed, I adopted my dalmatian at the age of 4 and didn't get her crate trained until roughly 2 years later. Word from the wise... When we first started we had a solid, closed in, hard plastic crate for her. She hated it. never took to it, wouldn't even go in to get treats. So we tried...

    dog blog

so I created my dalmatian and whippet page a few months ago... Then I realized that through Yahoo hosting I could activate a phpbb for free at the click of a button. So I started my dog forum. After another week or two passed I found the option to start up a wordpress blog, and POOF my dog blog...

a spoiled dalmatian who thinks shes homeless

lol, yes it is. but really the garbage is easy to clean (usually) we are more concerned when they leave us "hugs" and "presents" on the carpet ;-) and when they decide not to gift us with such love, as well as leaving the garbage alone, wow, what a day!

a spoiled dalmatian who thinks shes homeless

well we have an enclosed front porch that is just a few feet from the kitchen, so i've been keeping it out there. so far so good, every night i stop breathing when i get home till i do a quick sweep of the house and deam it clean! it's been amazing! just can't figure out why they quit pooping...

    removing peepee and poopy scents

Thanks for the suggestion, I might try that. My wife and I were out of town Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday, and the in-laws house sat. The dogs had no issues, but were never alone very long. I'm thinking this might have helped with any anxiety problems. On Monday we left them in the...

a spoiled dalmatian who thinks shes homeless

well, so far so good. i haven't trusted her alone for an extended amount of time yet though. I gently snapped the mouse trap on her paw so she would know what it does. then i clipped it to her lip hoping that she would feel a little bit of pain and understand more of what was happening. then...

    removing peepee and poopy scents

I've done a lot of reading, here and elsewhere, and it seems our problem is scents. when we first moved into this house we found yellow stains everywhere. we shampooed the carpet twice, but i don't think it was good enough for one reason. Our whippet and Dalmatian can spend an entire...

A few questions about dog training...

Our whippet is incredibly smart, but dumb too. Kind of frustrating really. He's smart when he wants to be devious, but.... We live on a farm and almost always have to keep him on his run if he's outside. if he gets his eyes on something he will run till he catches it or dies. Years ago he...

a spoiled dalmatian who thinks shes homeless

if there's no better way then we'll go ahead and try the moust traps. we had considered it before but the ones we have just seem so strong. I snapped one on my finger once and it really killed! (and i consider myself fairly 'tough' growing up on a farm, finding bloody wounds and not quite sure...

a spoiled dalmatian who thinks shes homeless

one more quick note... we considered the idea of putting child locks on the doors to help keep her from getting under the sink, but i don't want her clawing at the wood cabinets...

a spoiled dalmatian who thinks shes homeless

She eats out of the garbage. What to do? My wife and I have started enforcing a no dogs allowed policy in the kitchen for both the Dal and the Whippet... but i think this makes the Dalmatian want to sneak in there even more as soon as we leave! She stays out of the kitchen fine while we...
