    Must be Titled

Yes, and a tremendous amount of work goes into training SAR dogs as well, who only recieve a mere certificate. It can take upwards of 2 years to get a dog certified for SAR, which includes daily training/socialization routines lasting for hours. That's why I could never do SAR, it takes over...

Test for all you breed junkies!

When I was little we had a wolf hybrid and a dingo/ridgeback cross, very different from each other but at the same time very different from a fully domestic dog. The Dingo mix died of old age when I was 11, and the wolfdog died of old age when I was 14. After that my dad said no more dogs (he...

Test for all you breed junkies!

Supposedly his mother is 50% and his father is 75%, making him 60%? Anyway, I have a hard time believing that he was more than 25%. I think that sometimes breeders get mixed up in their math and/or fib a little, so after a couple of generations of hybridizing the true percentage is lost...

Test for all you breed junkies!

Whoa! Bubbatd nailed it on the head! On the first try! *high fives* And before anyone says something about him being a hybrid, I've lived with several wolf hybrids before and know what we're in for. :D

Test for all you breed junkies!

I am so excited, we just found the perfect dog for our family after a year of searching! So to celebrate I am holding a contest to see who can correctly identify what mix he is. :D Winner gets an e-high five. I know his breeding, so I'm curious to see who can figure it out. He is 7 months old...

Pretty awesome. I've been fascinated by that fox project for years. It will be really interesting to see how they test out.

    We finally have our dog!!

Finally after searching for over a year we have found the perfect dog for our family. He comes with the name Argile, which we will probably keep. 7 months old puppy, he still has gigantic feet to grow into. :D Just look at that winning smile!

    How To Get Into Therapy?

The Delta Society is who you want to get in contact with. :) http://www.deltasociety.org/ They do a lot of temperment trials and socialization trials/certifications etc. and have a lot of networking to find places for animals to go do their thing.

    I don't really get it.

A very close friend of mine does search and rescue. Our first attempt at training a dog from the pound for SAR didn't go so well. She was extremely adept, but had some psychological issues and would randomly snap at elderly people. Then she started snapping at other random people. We had to take...

Owner shot his dogs and will not be prosecuted!

I spent two years as a vegetarian and it nearly ruined my health, despite taking all the vitamins and buying all the special food etc that my body was supposed to need. Some people just need a certain amount of animal protien to thrive. Human beings are omnivores, and we are part of the food...

    Help Needed!

Thanks! I'm sure everything will work out fine either way. Not sure why, just something I've noticed about people, when a mutts heritage is unkown it's a great dog, but when it is known everybody is super cautious. Nothing directed at anybody is particular, just an odd thing I've...

    Help Needed!

I understand that their tendency (based on their breeding) will be to chase. I also know that they won't look like puppies, actually, here are some pictures of them. Developmentally though, they are not full grown yet. http://tucson.craigslist.org/zip/180020311.html The owner says that...

    Help Needed!

I'm am so excited! On Wednesday we finally going to have a look at some dogs! They are sisters, half Akita, and mom is a GSD/chow/rottie mix. The only concern I have about them is this. They are both 11 months old, and have never seen a cat in their entire lives. Their dad, the Akita, has...

    How many couples?

My fiance and I are getting married this month on the 30th. The scariest part is that I won't be meeting my inlaws until the wedding. :D Anyway, Gaddy I am really impressed with your high standards. That isn't something very commonly found these days. When I was a teen I swore that I was...

    Designer Dog Owners

I prefer to call mutts "custom blended". It seems to me that "designer dogs" are generally advertised as a mix of two purebreds, and a "mutt" (AKA custom blended) could be just about anything, never able to duplicate the same animal twice! :D See, we can come up with terminology to make the...

    Would you rather...

    1) Would you rather have a (A) English Cocker Spaniel (B) American Cocker Spaniel Neither. An American bit me and an English belonging to the neighbor zoomed into our yard, busted open a chicken pen, and murdered 9 baby chicks right before my eyes. The poor hen was devasted. :( 2) Would...

    The Neopolitan Mastiff (Mastino Napolitano)

Oh man! One time I saw a neopolitan puppy being walked by his owner. He was the size of a cocker spaniel, but was wearing adult sized feet and an adult sized skin! :p It was so hilarious I could not stop laughing! This puppy was tripping over his chins with what looked like giant doggie bedroom...

    rolling in fish guts.. yum

I've heard a couple of theories as to why dogs "scent roll". The simplest is that the dog found something cool and smelly, so they are rolling in it in order to bring to cool smell back to the rest of the pack. Possibly so their pack members can find or recognize whatever smelly cool things are...
