No, hamster food is not okay for rats. Its very very unhealthy for them. Any rat research would have told you, lab blocks, or suebee's mix. It also would have told you no pine, and any rat site says rats NEED companions (Which it didnt sound like you were thinking about by your first post.)

What you could do rather than supporting backyard breeding (Pet stores are backyard breeders) Is find a rat in a rescue....Even if he is older, the introduction but be a little more difficult but you would be saving a life =) Or find a reputable breeder
