    Why do you lurk?

I love reading this forum although I'm 'hot and cold' on how much I log in based on what else is going on and how much time I have. I'm quiet and not naturally a 'joiner'. I have to push myself to get involved in group activities, and I have to remind myself that I enjoy it once I do! So it...

    Indoor cats?

As far as your dogs getting into a covered litter box, my cats were adults when I got my dog, so we just put a gate up to the room that their litter box and food is. They can jump it, and the dog cannot. I could probably have installed a kitty door into the door of the room that the cats...

    Resource Guarding

To begin with, the dog is 7 years old, and this behavior only began about 2 years ago, and has happened only a handful of times. I feel very certain that we did something to make him feel it necessary to guard the items, but I'm not sure what...........possibly taken stolen items from him, but...

    Resource Guarding

What is It's Yer Choice? And would you do a lot of trading even of things that he hasn't stolen....like his bones, etc? Just so that he can be in the habit of trading? Because he doesn't get that many opportunities to steal......but it happens.

    Resource Guarding

For a dog who only resource guards when it is stolen food, how do you work on it? It might only happen 3 times a year, if that, and on those occasions that we have left something in his reach to be stolen, we have decided it is just his, and there is no confrontation. However, I would like...

    Breastfeeding in public

Perhaps it can be done where very little attention is brought to it. I never had anyone object to my breastfeeding 28 years ago over the course of 3 babies that I took and fed in public. My daughter is now breastfeeding baby number 2, and she takes her everwhere and feeds her when she...

Did you ever miss school for vacation?

I was never allowed to miss school unless sick. As a parent, I occasionally took them to school a little late on Monday or picked them up early on Friday to go visit grandparents. We did not live around any relatives, and we tried very hard to keep them in touch with all the grandparents...

    Breastfeeding in public

I was not aware that breastfeeding in public had become a problem. I have lived, had babies, and nursed them in public in South Carolina, south Georgia, and north Florida. My oldest is 28, so that's how long ago it was, and no one ever said a word to me, made a face, or showed any discomfort...

    Meeting people advice

Church groups have been covered and seem to be a place where a lot of young adults get to know other people their age. A gym, especially in an exercise or yoga class. If you become closer friends with some of the married people at work who are fairly close in age, you might find yourself...

    Baby girl name

I also like Leeanne or Leigh Ann. Julie is a pretty name. Not sure it goes with Lee, but Julia would work with Lee. Caroline. Eleanor.

    Baby girl name

Of the ones already mentioned, I really like Amelia, Charlotte, and Claire. Estelle or Stella is pretty. I like Kate, but with Lee I guess it would need to be Katherine. I know someone named Jenna whose middle name is Lee. Jenna is very pretty.

    Help with resource guarding....

If I remember it correctly, for guarding the food dish you would hand feed for awhile, then put your hands in the dish while he is eating for a few days, then touch dog while he is eating.....giving him wonderful treats during these things. Those particular steps wouldn't work for stolen...

    Help with resource guarding....

If it makes any difference, we've had Spanky since he was 12 weeks old. He came from the pound. He has never resource guarded or growled at anyone (except in play) until he was about 5. He's been seen by a vet, and nothing is wrong with him. He's had some medical issues, but they weren't...

    Help with resource guarding....

So do you think trading is the best counter conditioning to use? And would it help to set up some stealing situations so that he can get used to the fact that a trade will happen? Also, I talked to the behaviorist I used when Spanky was a puppy for some training sessions. He's a positive...

    Help with resource guarding....

What I can't seem to figure out is that she starts with feeding the dog by hand, then putting hand in dish while dog is eating, etc., progressing to touching dog while eating. I don't know how to start training him to accept us close and touching him with stolen food, and I didn't see a...

    Help with resource guarding....

I'm sure it probably would, but she gives detailed steps to use for most any scenario except stolen items.....at least stolen food.

    Help with resource guarding....

I am not ignoring the answers. I have been having quite a time signing in to Chazhound for a couple of weeks now. Half the time I just can't get on. I've been trying all day so I could see if I had any advice I could possibly use!!

    Help with resource guarding....

I got the book 'Mine', and it looks good, but I can't find "directions" for our specific problem. Spanky only guards stolen food items. He doesn't guard toys, his food, food that hits the floor when we're around..........but if he steals a food item that got left out at his level, he will...
