anybody else's dog have runny stools on Nature's Variety frozen raw?

Just a thought but I feed the NV frozen raw patties. The lamb goes over very well. When I fed the venison, it caused big-time runny stools. So it's venison no more!

    Hershey ALWAYS wants food! ahh!

I applaud you for wanting to feed something better. But don't expect it to change Hershey's behavior too much. Labs are notorious for being chow hounds. :) Mine lives to eat, and is always on the lookout for food. It's all part of lovin' a labby! Just a reminder ~ when you change...

Hannah's coat is lacking agian on raw

All I am saying is this -- we might like a soft coat, but that is not what a lab should have. Therefore I'd not be concerned about a coarse coat on a labrador retriever. Depending on where she lives, dandruff can easily be caused by heat in the house. Shedding, well heck, that IS the...

Hannah's coat is lacking agian on raw

Hannah is a lab, correct? They are not supposed to have a soft coat. The coat is supposed to be coarse, so don't use that as a criteria. Edited to add: One other thing ... don't know where you are located, but many labs are shedding now ... almost like an early spring blow. My girl's was...

    Grizzly Salmon Oil

I'm happy w/ the product, although I can't say if it's better or worse than any other. I've been using it for a year and it has virtually eliminated the dandruff that we normally see this time of year due to the heat (and no humidifier) in our house. And on top of that, my dog loves the taste.

Could my girl, Shadow be pregnant???

If your male is fixed there is no need for concern.

Home Prepared / Cooked Diet for Puppy

I would be very careful w/ the NV kibble ... their calcium % level is high. For a LB puppy you need to keep it below 1.5%.

    How old do Labradors get??

Labs can live to be 13 - 15 years old, and even older. You can extend the life of your furbaby by getting his weight down, and increasing his exercise. Keeping the weight down is especially important if you think he might hip/joint problems. Labs love to eat ... and thus, act like they...

    good and bad on Labradors

What do you mean by a mix chocolate and black lab? She's either one or the other - or a mix of a lab and something else. Labs are great family dogs. They love to eat! They also love to chew. They are notorious for chewing furniture, walls, woodwork, you name it and a lab (somewhere) has...

    Dog Shedding alot

A Zoom Groom works well on getting out some of the lab fur. It's best just to get used to it though. I once read that lab hair is both an accessory and a condiment. That pretty much sums it up!

    Labrador dilemma

Just FYI -- there are many conformation labs who are not huge and bulky. I have a bench/show lab and she is moderate. She is laid back and has the true labrador temperment. I do exercise her quite a bit, but she is definitely not - nor ever has been - hyper. I have a couple of friends w/...

TimberWolf Organics Wild & Natural Canid Formula Dog Food

I would be concerned about Pano and HOD in a large breed puppy. The TWO formula that the poster asked about has a protein level of 38%. I can't imagine anyone suggesting this food for a 10 week old LB puppy.

TimberWolf Organics Wild & Natural Canid Formula Dog Food

You should definitely NOT feed Evo to a Mastiff puppy. The calcium level in Evo is way too high for a large breed. I would be concerned w/ the TWO variety you mentioned too, due to it's protein level. Please do research regarding calcium and a large breed puppy.

    sheding...

Some dogs just shed worse than others. I have a lab and she sheds 365 days a year. It never ends. I can brush her until my arm hurts and get enough fur to make a kitten and it still never stops. Mine is on a holistic, high quality diet, partially raw fed ... so it's not the food, it's the breed.

    petfooddirect.com

I actually save money by ordering from petfooddirect. I'm in their 1 day shipping zone, so the cost of shipping isn't that bad. Additionally the food is cheaper than it is for me locally & I don't have to pay tax. They usually have at least 20 off, sometimes 22%. I have found that, in...

    Dog in alot of pain.

Dogs are very stoic and will mask their pain until it is nearly unbearable. Your dog needs to see a vet immediately. She could have a life threatening infection.

    Car sickness

Okay ... lots of personal experience here. Sami used to throw up everytime we went anywhere -- even if it was just a 3 mile car ride. When it was time to get in the car, she would majorly put on the breaks! She didn't even want to get in it! I tried Rescue Remedy and it seemed to help. My...

    2 phase morning poo sessions

I can think of several reasons if it has mucous in it. If it's simply hard, then soft, I'd say it's not enough fiber in the diet. You can try adding a Tbsp. of canned pumpkin (not pie filling) to their meals -- or some pysillium husks. It's amazing how fiber actually works to firm up their...

    concerns about Hannah's weight

Here is a chart to help you determine if your girl is really underweight: http://www.placervillevet.com/canine%20body%20condition.htm I have a lab too ... she's a bench/show lab so stocky & blocky. She'll be a year this month and she's just about 54 lbs. She is at the low end of the...
