Most humane way to deal with Watson

Luckily, Watson is old but doesn't actually suffer from anything in particular. He's kind of a puppy in a senior's body. He can't really play very well, but he still tries, and still loves to wander around and inspect things, sometimes more often than I'd like for fear of him hurting himself...

Most humane way to deal with Watson

How to take better care of Watson Hi - My furry companion is Watson, purebred German Shepherd going on 14! He's happy as can be and has no specific ailments, but his back legs are getting terrible, he can't walk well, he poops in the house regularly, etc. He's not going to last forever, but...

Watson keeps going to the bathroom in the house

Hi guys - Watson is a 13-year-old German Shepherd. Aside from the hip problems (which have gotten pretty bad) he has been in perfect shape until lately. The problem now is that he craps in the house literally more than half the days in the week. It seems to be something to do with how he is...

Help, Watson's legs are really bad now...

That's a good idea, I'll try to figure out ways to keep him busy and happy when I'm wandering around the house. :) I'll also look into getting a real gate to put up on the stairs for when needed, and a ramp for him to go to the grass, if I can. As far as pain/joint meds go, are those...

Help, Watson's legs are really bad now...

So my German Shepherd Watson is almost 13 and his legs/hips have been giving him trouble for some time, which was expected. This time, though, he seems to now be limping on them and not getting any better. Here's the other big issue -- we live in a 3-level house (8 stairs up, 7 stairs down)...

    Watson still acting strangely.

I took Watson to the vet today and he pretty much had the some hypothesis - probably diabetes, or possibly some sort of liver or kidney disease. They drew blood and are going to do a urine culture and stuff, and should know by tomorrow what's up with him. They're going to call me. The way my vet...

    Watson still acting strangely.

bubbatd - The X-Rays were not related at all. He had no blood work done. I have never had him checked out for this before, I just mean that I keep taking him in for other things and am always paranoid and he never has anything wrong, so I'm just skeptical in general to be too quick to take him...

    Watson still acting strangely.

Nope, he's been eating the same food for years. Perhaps he just never tried it before. I'm still concerned about the water-drinking part... he's still at it, he still woke me up 3 times last night to go to the bathroom and then immediately went for the water bowl.

    Watson still acting strangely.

It really is. Last time I took him into get some x-rays and the whole thing cost me almost $500, and it's tough. I love him so much, I'd take him in and get every test he needed, but it's hard to make that happen. It's not even a matter of me thinking it's too much, it's that I literally don't...

    Watson still acting strangely.

Hi guys - My Watson has still been acting up. As I posted before, he loves eating his own feces. You guys said this is normal, but you must understand that he is 11 years old and has never done this until now. Now, he eats his own feces nearly every time I take him out. He's drawn to it, you...

Um... he's been eating his own feces?

Hi - My dog Watson every once in a while when doing his business in the backyard would try eating his own feces. I would stop him from it, and he wouldn't seem to care. The past 3-4 days, however, he's been REALLY doing it. Whenever I let him out to do his thing, I have to IMMEDIATELY call...

    Good things to chew on?

Hey guys - My Watson (large German Shepherd male) is very picky about what he likes to chew. He loves to have something to chew on, but he only likes certain things. Doesn't like nylon bones or really any bones at all that I've found, even flavored ones and whatnot. The only thing he seems...

    Doggie door?

    Doggie door?

Hi guys - I'm wondering if there's such thing as a doggie door that you can, say wedge into an open sliding glass door or something? Or some sort of one that doesn't involve destruction of the house. I would need a fairly large doggie door for my German Shepherd, but we may be moving in a...

    Hearing loss?

Any chance it could be from temporary from an infection or something? I overheard some other woman at the vet saying her dog was deaf from an infection and that "his eyes are still goopy" and whatnot. I was wondering if this could be the case? I mean, I know dogs go deaf, but this did not...

    Advantage flea control drops

But strange behavior? Allergic reactions and the like are not unheard of, but a complete shift in animal behavior??? That doesn't seem like a side effect...

    Advantage flea control drops

I would guess it's the moving more than the medication. There's not much in Advantage to do anything like that, I wouldn't think. However from personal experiences, we've seen A LOT of behavior changes with Watson based on things like moving.

    Hearing loss?

Hi - I have an 11-year old German Shepherd, Watson, and I was wondering if it is possible/common/whatever for a dog to go deaf? I was premiering something at a film festival and had to leave for about 3 days, during which time I had him staying at a kennel. In the past few days that I've been...

    Watson is sick? Or not?

Hi guys - I wrote a few months ago about Watson, my almost-11-year old German Shepherd who was acting strangely after the passing of my mother, who was his owner. And largely everyone thought his odd behaviors were just that of mourning, and possibly he had a UTI, but we took care of that...

    Help with Watson. :(

Yes, she was just 53. Lung cancer, unfortunately. But yeah, I'm walking him more during the day now, and I'm going to make a vet appointment for him whenever they open again. And I have indeed considered getting a dog walker for him if I end up being gone a lot. Money is tight, but I want to...
