    bitework/protection people: an "OK" word?

Sorry, but I have to agree that this situation is a serious "accident" waiting to happen. Although you are aware of the problem so I don't think in court it would hold up as an accident. I have trained countless personal protection dogs. A dog trained to protect you does so on command. NOT a...

    Couch to 5k

I just completed week 3 day 2 today. I'm loving it. It actually really does get easier...or so I say now! I work from home so I can run mid afternoon. That's the easiest time for me. I love the app. I run listening to my music and she cuts in "Start running". Then "Start Walking"...

    Potty training woes

Great advice! Also, I would be sure that your puppy is on a regular schedule so that you are aware of when food AND water go in. That way you know when it needs to come out. Using a trigger command is great such as your "Go Potty". However, right now it doesn't mean anything to her. You...

Need Help with a Rescued Dog Please!

Hi! He sure looks like a beagle. What an awful story. I hope that he has settled in some by now. The most wonderful thing about dogs is that they live in the moment. I'm sure by now he looks to you as his family. Many hunters don't allow their dogs toys. It builds prey drive and they...

So, what's the real truth behind pet overpopulation?

Here in Massachusetts it certainly isn't an over population problem. Most of the dogs here are being brought up from the south. We never see puppies. Lots of juvenile dogs though. I do think the problem is less over population and more education. At least that's how I choose to help. The...

We just can't win, and this is why breed ID is important

The baby was supposedly in a swing from what I read when if first came out. Perhaps it kicked this dog into "prey" drive. They had only had the dog a couple of weeks as well. But, clearly we should ban the media and not Pit Bulls. It's bigotry through and through. Lisa

I got quite the scare this morning

How scary! I recently had an appraiser come out. I told him I had to let the dogs in from the back before he went into the yard. He watched me take the dogs in. I warned him to watch his footing out back. He didn't shut the gate when he left... Fortunately I take care of other...

    Opinion on Rehoming

I agree. It would be much too stressful for the dog as well as for the new "owner". Have you seen the dog "rental" outfits that are starting to advertise? You can rent a dog for an afternoon, an overnight or a weekend? These are actual dogs that are owned by the company. I SUPPOSE I could...

House Breaking a Dog w/o being mean??

If your dog is 3 years old, now neutered, yet is still having accidents I would agree that he is most likely marking. If he marked prior to his neuter and seems to be going in the same areas there is probably some scent left there to draw him back. I would try a little "CSI" detective...
