    Need dog walking help

put a pinch collar on your arm and pull, USe it sensibly don't haul back as hard as you can but give one quick pop, it isn't as bad as most people think.

    "If it's not AKC, it's a mutt"

I understand all of this, however isn't the "labradoodle" a failed attempt? After THIRTY years they couldn't produce a consistant dog, what's going to change that now?

    "If it's not AKC, it's a mutt"

Renee got it just right about all of those doodle dogs... Don't feel bad, I get that ll the time with my Beaucerons... even though they are an older breed Than shepherds, Rottweilers, and Dobermans. They are currently thought to be the oldest French breed, they date back to the middle ages.

    Need dog walking help

Put one dog in a crate while you walk the other. Use a leather leash for your hands and put the dog on a choke or pinch collar.

    Hmmm

Malinios, any of the Belgian Shepherds, German Sheps, Rottweilers, even a Beauceron

non kc vs kc non standered

(UNLESS YOU HAVE A TRUE WORKING DOG) If your not showing in any of the dog sports how can you compare your dog to others? How do you know that you have a quality dog? We all look at our dogs and say "wow... what a great dog." but in reality some dogs are of higher quality than others.

    Yet another What is This?

Labs are a breed that have been way oeverbred, so they differ so much from the breed standard. And you also have show/field strains, as well as "new" colors, white, fox red, and silver. I would call her a purbred Lab.

    Chicken Liver

A lot of show people use it, but with showing dogs as large as mine, I need my hands, and I would rather not have liver in my mouth, I use steak, or chicken depending on the dog. My Bernese Mtn dog, Whisper will do anything for a bite of Kiwi... go figure...

Anyone ever heard of this mutt....im sorry designer dog :/

With out very first litter of Bernese our breeder lived 7 states away, so we were relying on our vet to help, it was terrible, the bitch Nika, had a normal delivery, but afterwords had what seemed like alot of bloody discharge, we brought her to the vet to have bloodwork done, he saw the amount...

    Why Crop and/or Dock?

I personally don't have a problem with cropping or docking, I have seen both procedures done many times. It's tradition and part of the breeds heritage. My Beaucerons both have cropped ears, and the most painful part was removing the stiches. If you have a problem with cropping/docking why...

Anyone ever heard of this mutt....im sorry designer dog :/

Hey Rottie, you hit the nail on the head with those questions, I have vet-tech training, and all of the vets I have worked with, including my own, don't know a whole lot about breeding a good dog. I would bet that very few vets know anything about the above questions.

    Malti poo

Also in my opinion if the dog's initial price is something you worry about maybe getting a dog isn't the best thing in the dogs interest, as a breeder if I hear "how much for a puppy" as one of the first questions I am always very turned off, and often end up denying the people all-together.

    Malti poo

I think the issue here is not individual dogs, but overall dog welfare. These people buying mixes like Maltese/Poodle mixes, or Labrador/Poodle mixes, are just supporting "breeders" who real dog people work so hard to protest against. By producing more illicet dogs shelter dogs continue to die...

    Chicken Liver

I have never heard of that flavor, I don't think flavor will make much of a difference, but try to stick with canidae as a brand for your pup. I generally aviod feeding liver, the livers functions for the body is to remove all of the toxins... I'd rather not feed by dog toxins...

    Puppy Mills?

I have to point out, not to re-start an argument but Mach, you keep mentioning your dogs lines, and how champions are in her background, that doesn't always guarantee conformation quality, I have 2 Beaucerons, have siblings, both are out of an International Champion female, my female is by a...

    Removing Dew Claws??

Most good breeders remove all dewclaws when the pups are a few days old, we remove all dewclaws on our Bernerse Mountani Dog pups. It's just a precaution, taking them off just in case they get cought on stuff and tear, if they do tear off it's not pretty, and it's very painful! The other breed I...

    Another What Breed Is She

If anyone asked me what she was I would say that she's a Border Collie. As a breed Border Collies are extremly varied, from beautiful fluffy show coat dogs, to rugged, tough, small, working Short hair dogs.

    Malti poo

Just a side note, several people are mentioning the CKC, well there is the Canadian KC, which is ligit, but there is also, the Continental KC, created by millers and for millers, you can register mixes as "experimental crosses" On the reg, papers there is even a spot for you to list your...

    I have had enough

I came here from another forum, Pro Dog, and I will say it's a lot more heavily moderated over there, (fights over cropping and docking, designer dogs... well I never!) It's a little more violent on this side of the fence, but hey I like a little more healthy competition and excitment!

    Designer Breeds

I wouldn't say it's common to have health problems in purebreds, depends on your breeder, my Rottweiler has an Am/Can Champion, and went OFA excellent, she was from wonderful lines that didn't just concentrate on looks, she also could work an excellent C-course in herding! Just a good all around...
